Nah, vil... I think that one is a little too much on the hospital side when it comes to design... I think there's something out there that is less institutional with out thre side rails...

not actual (expensive and ugle)

IMO nearly all beds are ugle until you put a proper bit of bedding on them.

The adjustability features shouldn't too strongly affect how you "decorate" them. The biggest problem would be from the roll bars (side rails) if those are needed; but on most "real" hospital beds those are fairly easily removed by the average hillbilly, and they usually retract "mostly out of the way" on the ones they don't come off from easily.

In some places you might find a "bed rental" agency that specializes in utility beds for when you have space but no beds for the company that comes for the holidays. Some of these might have at least a few adjustable styles. Many "medical supply" providers will rent fairly reasonably (compared to what they bill an insurer) if you haggle hard, and some offer the option of purchasing rather than renting.

Try a Google for "adjustable beds" for a good sampling of what you're probably looking for. The "Craftmatic" is one of the most advertised, but there are many others.

From what I've seen though, the adjustable ones without the hooks for the harness and the tie-downs and supports run about the same in price as the common hardware-heavy hospital types. It's probably just a matter of what one wants to do in bed that governs which is best.

A significant factor would be that few regular hospital beds are double wide, so they may be limiting if you have things to do with a partner. Outside the medical styles, the adjustables are available to accomodate two (or more) occupants.

The beds I've seen in nursing homes look like regular beds (wooden ends and all) That's the kind I'd want if I thought I wanted an adjustable-end bed..

..and if I did want one, I'd check in with a nursing home to find out where they get theirs.

Thanks, Sins...

Maybe it's just not in the cards for her???

I have never seen any that weren't big bucks and I have never seen any worth the money. A good friend of mine bought one and after the initial few months the novelty wore off and it was a pain in the ass, so to speak.

They are on Craig's List for anywhere from $200. and on up though......Replace the mattress and that might be an option.......

Frankly, I was horrified the last time I considered buying a new mattress for a standard bed. I could get a perfectly serviceable truck for about the same price.

I decided to let her get by with the old sack of pinecones (well crushed), although I did manage to find a couple of feed sacks to cover the itchy burlap on her side of the bed.

An Independent Living Center (or whatever it's called in her area) might be able to suggest an affordable place to get one.

If she has a medical need, good insurance and a doctor who will write a scrip for a mechanical bed, a semi-ugly one might be affordable that way.

I wouldn't recommend pinecone mattressing on a mechanical bed..they clump up and make awful sores.

Ah, John's wife is cool with it. She doesn't mind a few bumps, bruises and lacerations. :)

Thrift stores. Our local Goodwill had two beds recently with an adjustable backrest. They weren't hospital beds but were close. they wanted $40 each for them.

I found one on an informal dump along the power lines- they dont rust and it worked fine.

Many USA state governments periodically sell off surplus from state hospitals as things are upgraded. These beds are sturdy and stainless steel so dont break.

Best way is
