24 Feb 10 - 06:25 PM (#2849271) Subject: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Kev The Clogs Hi there I work with a lady called Jenny. She was saying that it was a shame that there were so little opportunities to sing and play in the local area. I suggested that she go and find a pub and organise a session - well that's just what she has done!! The Rising Sun at Cotmans Ash - nearest big place is Kemsing, followed by Sevenoaks. Monday 15th March. 8pm start. All singers and musicians are welcome. This is initially a "one off" but depending on the interest, it could be a regular event. Any more details, I'll keep you informed. Regards Kev |

04 Mar 10 - 09:02 AM (#2855796) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: melodeonboy There's a possibility that I'll turn up, Kev; I'd really like to support it. However, I'm gigging on 12th, 13th, 16th and 17th, so I might need to conserve battery power! (I used to think I was like the Duracell bunny, but I sometimes feel like the others that run out of steam and fall by the wayside!) |
04 Mar 10 - 11:52 AM (#2855951) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Rusty Dobro I was exiled from Kemsing 40 years ago. I'll have to try to get along - it is (or was) a nice pub. |
10 Mar 10 - 07:23 AM (#2860888) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Kev The Clogs Do I take it from the lack of posts that nobody is interested in this one? It was never planned as a large singaround (hoped it could grow in time) - but it would appear that it will be a damp squib if we don't get any of the regular folkies in the area. The pub is nice. The landlady is friendly. The beer is good. Jenny, who took the time and trouble to set it up, is now worried that nobody will be there. Come on peeps - what else wouold you be doing on a Monday night!!!?? Kev |
10 Mar 10 - 08:08 AM (#2860912) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Kev, I'd love to come, and it wouldn't be the first time that the two of us have held a gig together, but I'd need transport. Norman is away in Oz from Saturday, so I'm stuck at home evenings until after April 10th. It's a bummer, because the only gig I can get to under me own power during those three weeks is Lower Stoke. It's not getting to these gigs that is the problem, it's getting home again, though Kemsing is difficult both ways. If anyone is able, without going too far out of their way, to swing by Snodland, I would definitely come along. I love the idea of establishing new venues, though the landlady might be better served by choosing another evening. There's a lot of competition on Mondays. Wilmington, Maidstone, Sheppey, and Tunbridge Wells. Meantime I will see if I can twist somebody's arm for a lift, though I don't hold out much hope. |

15 Mar 10 - 08:38 PM (#2864883) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Don(Wyziwyg)T We understand why those who didn't come couldn't come and of course prior commitments must be honoured, but I know that all of you will be overjoyed to hear that it was a stonking session, with a huge amount of traditional song leavened by a goodly sprinkling of contemporary, and humorous material. Many thanks to all, and to the landlady especially, who presides over a local which is exactly what a local should, and used to be. Next session will be third Monday in April, which is the 19th. It's well worth the trip, there are two of the finest Real Ales, and the music will knock your socks off. Special thanks to Kev the Clogs and to Jen. They made it happen. Don T. |

06 Apr 10 - 10:03 AM (#2880671) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Don(Wyziwyg)T I am now able to commit. As last month, I shall be there, transported by a Dead Horse. It's a great little pub, and worth the trip, especially with a choice of real ales at £2.40 a pint. Don T. |
06 Apr 10 - 11:53 AM (#2880744) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Girl Friday I really do hope that such a good session continues to be so. Folk at The Foresters started like that, and continued well for about a month. Can some of you find us on the first, second, and fourth Mondays please? Oh, and if there should be five Mondays in the month. That is, with the exception of Bank Holidays. i |

06 Apr 10 - 12:39 PM (#2880775) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Rob Naylor Trouble is, there are Monday sessions on in both Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, so it would be spreading things a bit thin to try and get up to Kemsing as well! |
06 Apr 10 - 01:35 PM (#2880823) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Girl Friday I think that the problem lies in the fact that pubs may have encouraged us to run on Monday nights as it is traditionally a quiet night for the licenced trade. Therefore there are lots of us trying to run something. Maybe too many? /Richard - I'll p.m. you. |
06 Apr 10 - 05:58 PM (#2880970) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Kev The Clogs If the night needs to be changed - I don't think that wiuld be a problem - but WHEN would suit everyone? |
06 Apr 10 - 09:16 PM (#2881075) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Rob Naylor Difficult for me: Mondays I do British Military Fitness (BMF) and go to a local session afterwards, when they're on. Tuesdays I do BMF in winter and rock climbing outside in summer. Wednesdays, more BMF, with climbing club slideshow afterwards once a month, and the odd evening with friends. Thursdays I do running club 3 times a month and the High Brooms Tavern Singaround on the 4th. Fridays and Saturdays are not "scheduled" as such but I'm generally at a gig somewhere in the evenings. Sundays I climb if it's nice, and rest in the evening. So for me, I don't think any timing changes made would make it feasible to get there. I can get to Tonbridge straight after a BMF session, if I arrive smelly and unshowered but much further wouldn't be feasible. |
07 Apr 10 - 02:28 PM (#2881538) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Girl Friday I understand that there are quite a few morris sides who practice on Mondays. Generally a side will sing at the same pub afterwards. |

Lovely pub, cosy and informal atmosphere, choice of real ales at very reasonable price. I can always accommodate a couple of passengers, if there is anybody wanting a lift. Seven thirty at my house. PM me for details. Don T. |

No cars in the car park and what appeared to be the landlady in her nightdress in the garden! Pub almost invisible from the road behind an untrimmed hedge - is it still open? |
13 Aug 10 - 09:11 AM (#2964280) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Next session:- MONDAY NEXT, 16TH AUGUST. Jenny is on holiday, and has asked me to run it. My voice may or may not have recovered from Sidmouth, and the heavy cold I brought back, so if you aren't folked out, why not join us? Great little pub, wonderful atmosphere, lovely landlady, and two (count 'em) real ales at about £2.40 a pint. What more could you want? Don T. |

18 Jan 11 - 06:04 AM (#3076984) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: GUEST,John from Kemsing The first 2011 session took place last night. Nine folks were there which is not bad for an event that had not been publicised nor for which a reminder had been issued. A very pleasant evening ensued. Michelle, the landlady, advised us that a mains water leak had brought down the ceiling of the ladies "loos" and compromised the electrics so those in need were obliged visit the gents under candlelight. Where else could you a get more romantic sense of relief?? She is also enthusiastic for the evenings to continue and local notices are planned. Jenny has arranged the next one will be on Feb,21st and a notice will be posted here accordingly. |

22 Feb 11 - 07:36 PM (#3100741) Subject: RE: Rising Sun - Kemsing, Session From: Don(Wyziwyg)T I have been subjected to one Myocardial Infarction, (stopped in its tracks by my own swift response which meant that I went into A & E with angina pains, and had the heart attack in the best possible place), one Angiogram, and two Angioplasties. The result is that I now feel better than I have in the last five years, and am back to full singing strength. I couldn't come last night (the DVLA forbid driving for a week after an Angio), but I'll be back (like Arnie) next month. See you all then. Don T |
