10 Mar 10 - 11:20 AM (#2861060) Subject: RE: I Wanna Go Where You Go... From: PHJim I just realized that I've been singing the wrong tune to this song. The proper tune uses only four chords and was quite easy to figure out. Thanks to Catfish Willie for supplying the correct tune. Now if I could figure out the chords to the tune I was singing and figure out where it came from... |

11 Mar 10 - 09:29 PM (#2862281) Subject: Lyr Add: THEN I'LL BE HAPPY (Clare, Brown, Friend) From: Jim Dixon The correct title is THEN I'LL BE HAPPY (although Joe Williams recorded it under the title I WANNA GO WHERE YOU GO) The Red Hot Jazz Archive has playable recordings by Josephine Baker (verse and chorus), The University Six (instrumental only), and Bailey's Lucky Seven, with vocal by Arthur Fields (chorus only). I transcribed the following from the Josephine Baker recording: THEN I'LL BE HAPPY Words by Sidney Clare & Lew Brown; music by Cliff Friend. New York: Irving Berlin Inc., copyright 1925. VERSE: First you bring me joy, then bring me sorrow. Why, you're just here today and gone tomorrow. Why can't I have you for my own? Tell me why must I stay here all alone? CHORUS: I want to go where you go, do what you do, Love when you love, then I'll be happy. I want to sigh when you sigh, cry when you cry, Smile when you smile, then I'll be happy. If you go north or south, if you go east or west, I'll follow you, sweetheart, and share your little love nest. I want to go where you go, do what you do, Love when you love, then I'll be happy. [Scat] REPEAT CHORUS. |
