BS: Top 3 Canadians of all Time

25 Feb 10 - 12:41 PM (#2849948)
Subject: BS: Top 3 Canadians of all Time
From: Sawzaw

MSNBC conducted a viewer poll ont the Morning Joe Show to determine who are the most famous Canadians of all time.

Results

#1 William Shatner

#2 Dudley-Do-Right

#3 Michael J. Fox

Honorable mention: Little Hawk

Runner up Chongo Chimp

Very good!

Shatner is definitely Numero Uno. No debate there.

The Little Hawk portrait is quite accurate for me at a much younger age than I am now.

But Chongo Chimp isn't Canadian. He's an American citizen.

How come you left out Don Cherry and his dog, Blue

And yes,I know he wasn't born there.

I hope I am not irritating the Canadians here with my ignorance.

The first three were chosen on MSNBC and I thought it was humerous.

I only know Canadians from an American viewpoint like John Candy and Alex Trebec.

I like Canada. On a whole it is cleaner and neater than the US except for some of the Indian Reservations. The people are friendly except in Quebec.

I've been over a good part of it like the Edmonton Mall, Banf, Atlin, Nova Scotia, Prince Rupert even the Yukon where I visited Robert Service's cabin. Was he Scottish or English.

Someone mentioned Tecumseh earlier and he actually was ranked 37th on a list of great Canadians. While he died on Canadian soil defending Canada from U.S. aggression, he was born in what became Ohio and lived his entire life there and in present-day Indiana. Only the fortunes of war drove him into Canada at the very end of his life. Nevertheless, he was a great man, a brave warrior and a visionary leader.

Shatner's autobiography "Get A Life" is actually a very entertaining, amusing book. I recommend it to anyone. Seriously.

Canadians are known for being good at laughing at themselves and their own foibles, and Shatner is no exception.

Don Cherry has also written an autobiography. It's called "Grapes" (a reference to sour grapes?) I can't recommend it....I blush to say that I have never read it! It's like Shane's bible, eh?

Tecumseh was an Native American.

I've read "Grapes", and it, or they, has nothing to do with sour!

"Okay...how about Bobby Orr? Rocket Richard? Gordie Howe?" Even in the right order!

No mention of Farley Mowat! I read somewhere that he said "Goddammit" and "You little bastard" to his two Lab pups so often, that they became their names!

Would have liked the opportunity to have had a few jugs with Sir John A! "I get sick....not because of drink(but because)I am forced to listen to the ranting of my honourable opponent".

Pierre Trudeau. Somewhere between Leona and Barbara!

I was just picking folks who are known outside the borders...and their province of origin... and trying to keep it down to 3... it's tough esp. when getting to NS... there are so many from Ont. and Kebek , Lightfoot , Morrisette, Jim Carey, Akroyd, Lorne Michaels .. on and on and on..
