But thenthere are several large Jewish communities in Mexico City, Tijuana and perhaps other cities. Or do I assume too much in thinking this takes place in Mexico? Jeffrey Kaye of KCET/Los Angeles reports on an unusual musical collaboration. It was neat to watch the rehearsals of the Klezmer band and the Mariachi band together, then the day of the two performances they did. They showed the back of the vihuela, how it looks like an armadillo, and I was reminded of our discussion of the tiple. It was wonderful to watch. Wish they had the entire performance as a program. click here |

Was it a group local to Mexico? A few years ago, the Klezmer Conservatory Band from Boston did a show here in Montreal in which they collaborated with the French Canadian band La Boittine Souriante. Over all, I though the separate sets by each band were much better than the one they did together, but it did have its moments. Mike Regenstreif |
