Looking forward to it!

In specially commissioned songs to mark the 25th anniversary of the end of miners' strike, Radio 2 explores how lives were changed by the year-long dispute (1984-85). This is the latest in a series of award-winning Radio Ballads commissioned in recent years by BBC Radio 2, exploring important issues of our time.

With songs by Jez Lowe (Judas Bus), John Tams (Over in a Fortnight), Julie Matthews (Beyond The Picket Line) and Ray Hearne (Ordinary Copper) and musical accompaniment by acclaimed folk musicians John McCusker, Andy Cutting, Bob Fox, Barry Coope, Jez Lowe, Andy Seward, Julie Matthews and John Tams.

Hope they include a version of 'The Super and the Snowman'. It's one of my favourite songs of the strikes.

Ray Hearne wrote Ordinary Copper from the stories of policemen finding themselves in bitter fights with miners.

Yea - I will be recording it.
Maybe I should sing my song of that moment, next time at the Folk Club.
Mind you, it won't satisfy all. It is about a taxi driver. Remember him? Doubt it, he was one of the casualties, just like his memory.

John Peel once said nothing causes the heart to sink faster than the radio announcer saying, 'and now a piece specially commissioned for radio 3..'
Let's hope R2 is cut from a different gib.

But glueman surely the best Folk bits commissioned on Beeb3 have been the Verity Sharp Late Junction ones and not a dud amongst them. We wouldn't have had Christmas Champions otherwise & I'm pressing for a repeat of 'England in Ribbons' via @BBC_Archives.
