Orlando Consort concert yesterday.

Where can I find some other counter-tenors to listen to? I was blown away!

Alfred Deller is one of the first of the new wave of counter tenors; James Bowman is my personal favourite.

Try Philippe Jaroussky.

For some strange reason I get the mental picture of an Italian caracature character going "Befora you loosa your tempa you needa to count ta tanna"

But then again, I am not noted for complete sanity of reason.

Sorry to interupt your perfectly sensible post.

Reverting to a serious answer to the question posted by the OP, you might want to try this site for a few answers to your question - a site dedicated to counter-tenors There is a link there to online videos and websites. Andreas Scholl is probably the most currently high profile counter tenor although there are many others.

One of my favourites is by Thomas Tallis, "The Lamentations of Jeremiah" sung by The Deller Consort.

This is in effect a page of a medieval illuminated manuscript rendered in music complete with decorated versals and other decorative devices. A feast for the ear rather than the eye. Absolutely wonderful stuff. Amazon have a version of the CD retailing at £4.99 new. A Bargain!

The version by his (Deller's) son is not quite so magical.

Does "counter-tenor" have to do with his singing range, and if so, is it higher than a regular tenor?

Does "counter-tenor" have to do with his singing range Yes a counter tenor is a male alto with a singing range normally the same as a contralto. It is usually achieved by use of the falsetto voice.

There is a Wikipedia article here which explains in more detail.
