A feast of North Country dance traditions in the Market Place on Saturday morning - Rattlejag (East Midland ploughjags), Wakefield (North-west), Maltby Phoenix (Rapper & Longsword) and Barbara Owers (English clog). Plus good guests, ceilidh, singarounds and good beer. What more could you want....... Oh, allright then, we will sign autographs - for a pint-a-piece. R.

In fairness to the organisers I think they were waiting to see if they got a grant before announcing. I'm MC'ing the concerts on Saturday and hosting the survivors session on Sunday.

This sounds like a great weekend & something I'd have liked to get involved in. Unfortunately we'd have needed to plan it in to our calendar a while back, so we won't be able to join you. Maybe next year!

Have a Fab time!!!

Some, above, seem a tad irate...
I only posted a heads-up on here (and please don't shoot this messenger) because I saw another thread from Hissyfit,
who are performing at this fest which mentioned it in passing.
I did a quick check around to see if the organisers had put owt on here.
I have no part of the fest organisation - my band, too, are merely booked as artists

Nope - they seem to have 'missed a trick' - missed the oppo to get a few extra bods on board
by posting (for free) on dear ol' Mudcat!
Hence my eleventh hour effort.
But they HAVE advertised elsewhere, I must add.
I've seen a (no doubt) paid-for quarter page ad in a national music publication (for one example).
I cut it out for m' scrapbook!

I do feel sorry for those that might have made it given more of a heads-up
(though to rely on Mudcat-alone for fest info doesn't make for best planning, I'd have thought?)

Nevertheless, I've done my best having stumbled upon Donny's possible oversight on the freebie publicity front.

Those who can make it can have a reet knees-up as the McF Band will
see the night off with all the best of their uptempo stuff - leaving
out all the slow and artier stuff for 'dance purposes'.
Get yer dancin' duds n clogs on!
Mebbe see ya - Dunc

Now stop all this bickering and chattering, where will the best session be? Teg, tell me, you know the sort of thing I like when it comes to music! And I've not heard your dulcet tones for too long. I might well be up for a run across to Donny if there's a sesh that's worth it. Of course, whether you'd want ME there is quite another thing...
See ya.
Lawrie

The website has basic details of the festival - http://www.angelfire.com/planet/doncasterfolk/ and phone numbers of organisers. As I understand, indoor camping could still be arranged (though the original venue fell through). There is space for campervans / caravans, but ring first. I'm sure tickets will still be available.

Late confirmation of funding is a perennial problem for smaller festivals; but especially so for those early in the year when there isn't the opportunity to "pass the word around" in the weeks before.

P.S. Anyone feeling the compelling urge to reward the morris dancers' efforts will will find a warm welcome in the Mason's Arms on Saturday lunchtime. Cheers! R.

Sorry we couldn't make it but we were in Whitby for the Runswick Lifeboat do on Friday night and by the time we made it home on Saturday much as I love Bill Caddick and Hipflask (nearly got a 'oopsie' typo there) we couldn't afford £14 each to go and see them.

If there's a DFF next year please put it on here earlier - even as a 'hopefully upcoming'. Thanks for putting it up this year Hip.

Went Saturday pm

High standard of singers in the Ukrainian upstairs sing 2 until 6pm had brief chat with "old git" geoff t; Geoff Miller and Jim McDonald

Saw some of the concert with Hissyfit and His Worship and the Pig ~

Threlwalls trio missed em!

Anxious Andrew (Howard) impresses with his singing and songwriting upstairs

Apparently delays in adverts etc down to funding issues so next years date may not be the same ~ grand little festival with great guest

Came back before evening session and spoke briefly to Duncan McFarflane as they were setting up for the evening do

The jag seemed to go down well everywhere...though it was a bit of a tight squeeze in the Masons' Arms! We ,as always enjoyed performong it.
I'm worried about Jim McDonald though...he said he preferred me as a woman!!
As ray said , there was some great singing in the upstairs room at the Ukrainian club.

Interestingly enough, the Cheshire Cheese doens't seem to have opened at all this last week.
Had a look in club on Friday - under a dozen there.
Still lots more work needed to be done on publicity side before next year.
