02 Mar 10 - 06:08 AM (#2853911) Subject: RE: Review: Current Folk Clubs in Greater Manchester From: SteveMansfield Well you're both right in a way - the Greater Manchester Council was abolished by Margaret bloody Thatcher in 1986 and many powers returned to the 10 individual local and city councils: but many of the administrative and planning functions (transport, employee pensions, etc.) are still coordinated through AGMA, the Association of Greater Manchester authorities, and 'Greater Manchester' is still, I believe, a recognised geographical region. Sid, however, is probably still fully adjusting to Lancashire's territorial losses in the Wars of the Roses :) Good list Les, it deserves a permanent home on a website somewhere. It also overlaps nicely with Pete Hood's directory of events in Manchester and Cheshire at http://www.zen37219.zen.co.uk/folkystuff.htm. |

They have live music every Friday and Saturday, and quite often it has folk content e.g. this coming Friday it's a folk rock band (John Bilek) as it's coming up to St Pat's Night; then at the end of April Dom Collins is appearing there. There are othere "folkies" in between but I can't remember who they are, sorry! Ali |

10 Mar 10 - 03:00 PM (#2861239) Subject: RE: Review: Current Folk Clubs in Greater Manchester From: Will Fly The Crown's a great pub - good food and a great range of beers. Angie's very friendly and welcoming. It was a small company when I was there for the singaround, but fewer people means more turns! Not very far from the Crown is Red Rock Bridge, which crosses the Leeds-Liverpool canal. The miners' cottages in this picture were where my g-g-ggrandfather - a miner - lived in the 1840s. |
