McMoo & Knock-Knee'd One....Welcome!

Now of course not everyone gets the full "welcome wagon" treatment upon hitch-hiking into our little cyber-town, but I just couldn't resist acknowleging two "noms des plumes" like mcmoo, and knock-knee'd one!
I believe our two new residents are of Scotish and Irish habitation, so I'd better warn you that some of us are such creatures of American TV influence (even we Canadians)that occasionally our references will make no sense at all. Catspaw, for example hasn't made sense since April 24 1968. It's a good town though. Kind of like Thornton Wilder on acid. We've got loud folk, and quiet folk. Long-winded folk, and ...well, longer-winded folk! A few months ago I alluded to Mudcat being like a Nudist Colony where you start talking to folks about your shared interest (folk music), you get to like them, but you can't see their "uniform" so all those pre-conceived apprehensions just aren't there. Before you know it you're part of group where academics are sharing with labourers, hippies with Viet Nam vets, hard-line conservatives with liberal-radicals. That just doesn't happen very often where I come from. By the time you get to see the uniforms it's too late to be wary - you'll just see the person inside - and you'll probably like a lot of what you see.
"Knock" came in on "James Taylor" and "mcmoo" on "Guitar tuners", and I hope to see both of you around our little town for a while.
Rick

It's always great to welcome strangers to our family--the stranger the better (it makes some of us feel almost normal). Stick around and have a ball, guys (I think I've seen several new names over the past few days, most not quite as attention-grabbing as you two: For the others, the welcome mat is down as well, and we'll be happy to get to know you). --seed

Yeah, seed is right about the "pseuds". There are still a few that totally baffle me, but I'm embarrassed to ask what they mean. I show enough of my ignorance as it is! Ah hell, why not ask? What does Catspaw 49 mean? Is it from a book? And while I'm at it, is Fadac an acronym for something?
Rick (who couldn't think of a funny "pseud" until it was too late)

Rick,

FADAC explained his acronym in some other thread (Ipm at work, so I'm not searching for it). He helped maintain some sort of artillery fire control devices for the Army and his job title was FADAC.

I don't know about Catspaw. I notice that his hammered dulcimers have a cat's paw carved out of the sound board and at one point he noted that he is no longer "49". Seems his in the fifties like you and I.

Hey folks, welcome to our town........Glad you stopped in and I hope you stay awhile. Please be sure and contribute to the threads and It appears you already have a good start on that. Please be sure and take a bit of time to learn how to use the Forum and the Digital Tradition search engines. They will save you a great deal of time in your search for information on songs, tunes, background and the issues that spawned the music.

Sure am glad you are here. We are better for your presence.

Since I've already said hello to both of you, I have no idea why I'm posting here...........Oh yeah, a formal welcome, that's it............

...and Rick is incorrect. I remember making sense in May of 1986 when I met Karen. I asked her to marry me immediately before she had a chance to know me too well.

Well thank you Rick, bbc, BSeed, RiB, Big Mick and Catspaw and in advance to anyone else for your kind welcomes! I feel completely overwhelmed and lost for words (for once!). I'm glad I stumbled on this place and can sense immediately that I'll like it here. Although I'm Irish I live in that most surreal of countries, Belgium, and Catspaw has already done me the honour of sending me the recent and entertaining thread on that! Most of it true too! For the record, I'm 47, play a variety of stringed and bashing instruments after a fashion (or should that be out of fashion?), sing hopefully but badly, am married to Patricia (who sings very well indeed) and have a daughter Hannah who's also caught the bug (despite my efforts to explain the vow of poverty that goes with this!). I look forward to being part of this little community and hope I can bring something positive to it. Once again..many thanks!

Hey, mcmoo--

Change threads if you want a drink! Check out the "Mudcat Tavern--Round 4" then check out Rounds 1-3! We've been having a lot of cyber-fun there! It's amazing what a menu we have, too! BTW, how old is Hannah? I'm 46 & my son, David, is 17. She can check him out at the Mudcat Resources site. Let us know if you want to be on the email, birthday, photo, or profile pages.

best,

bbc

I tried to enter last night but to my horror found it was http 403 Forbidden. I was devastated and phoned a friend and even the help desk. My mind going over all the things I had said thinking that I had been black balled for something, when I received the email from Rick. Phew what a relief. I have been enjoying the cafe so much the thought I had been forbidden was just too much to take. Yes I do live in Scotland which is why the replies take so long to come and I've just slept in for work after staying up trying to access the cafe. see you later

Losing sleep and jobs are the price many of us pay. I used to be President of the World Bank before I joined Mudcat.

Welcome to Mudcat and ((burp)) the Mudcat Tavern. Don't worry about over indulging....I think they water down the drinks. Otherwise about everyone on this site would be drunk out of their minds.

Have fun here!! Now McMoo, didn't I have some wonderful bejgian raspberry beer once . . . ?? could we get BBC to carry it at the tavern? And I'm sure you've discovered by now that both Big Mick and Catspaw were quite restrained in their intros. And did I see Katlaughing?
