Lyr Req: I Leave My Heart in an English Garden

Reading the English Country Garden thread I was reminded of another song I once heard about an English garden. It is real pretty. It might include the line "I left my heart in an English garden." Does anybody know it?

Yes, I know "I Left My Heart in an English Garden", but can't remember the words. Seems it starts something like......I left my heart in an English garden, down where the oak and the elm stand high. Where the highways are dark and drear, I'll find my true love here, right where the roses of England grow.....etc.

I LEAVE MY HEART IN AN ENGLISH GARDEN
Words, Christopher Hassall. Music, Harry Parr Davies.
Sydney: J. Albert & Son, 1950.
London: Sun Music Publishing Co., 1950.
From the musical 'Dear Miss Phoebe'.

Breezes in the long grass ruffling my hair,
Hollyhock and bluebell scenting the air;
Nothing in the world can ever be
Such a sweet memory.
Nothing in the world was ever so fair.

I leave my heart in an English garden,
Safe where the elm and the oak stand by.
Though the years rise and roll away,
Still shall those watchmen stay,
Bold in the blue of an English sky.

I leave my dreams in an English garden,
Safe where the breezes of England blow.
When the highways are dark and drear,
I know there's sunshine here,
Bright where the roses of England grow.

Old Lady

I love this song, and have said I'd like it played when I pop off! Going out from the service of course, something a bit more serious going in!!
