BS: Canuckistan budget worries are over!

Harper anounces DRASTIC measures.

The proposed salary freeze is designed to show that the government is leading by example. It will apply to the prime minister, cabinet ministers, MPs and senators. MPs currently earn $158,000, while cabinet ministers make $233,000.

And, they get full pension immediately after putting in six years.

I feel soooo sorry for the POOR BASTARDS!

Leading by example? Fooooook me!

Hmmm. As long as the son of a gun doesn't get a majority government...I'd hate to think what he might do if he ever did.

LH, your polite language "the son of a gun" is much milder than what I would apply!

At least it shows they're too damned scared of the outcome, should they give themselves a pay *rise*.

'The Peasants Are Revolting' has taken on a whole new Antoinettian meaning...

He will be around for a few years more. Most Canadians approve of his low key, do little government.

Yes, I think you're right that he'll be around for a few years yet. It's not like the other parties have a whole lot to offer, is it?

My mama always told me, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Hence the previous post.

In other news,, there's a new bill calling for changes in the OAS whereby immigrants will only have to be citizens for 3 yrs to qualify for full benefits... they need 10 yrs. at present....
I've nothing against immigration... everybody in N. America ,including the 1st peoples came from somewhere else.... but this looks like a play to get more of the 'ethnic' vote...

There are rumors that she will enter as a landed immigrant and pursue the job of prime minister of Canada.......

Or, Bankley, could it be that some sort of alignment of Immigration and social security policy might be the very thing to stop some aspects of economic migration and people-trafficking?

Anyways, what the hell does the USA do for poor people - immigrant or not. Apart from let them sell their body-parts to rich folks that this over-burdened world would be better off without?

some aspects ? Come to Canada at 62 , stay 3 yrs and collect a full 'old age' pension... sounds screwy to me..

I don't care to comment on US internal policy right now as I am currently a guest in this country... I make my stance clear enough with the songs that I write and record

I receive social security benefits from both the U. S. and Canada, since anyone who paid into both systems is eligible for benefits.

This is a reciprocal deal. The amount from each country depends upon length of employment requiring payment into their systems.

Moreover, one who spends his working life in the U. S. and retires to Lower Slobovia is entitled to and receives full benefits.

Guest? What does that mean? Wetback? Illegal? Undeclared income?
