The video involves yodeling. No doubt 2-3 guys who suffer yodel envy will enter this thread simply to sneer. The best thing to do is to ignore them, unless you can think of something really cutting to say which will have them grinding their teeth in the small hours of the night. 2. I will mention that I don't watch TV. I am not sneering at anybody who watches TV. There is no need for anybody to post a splenetic denunciation of me. I don't watch TV because of vision problems, that is all. Okay. Now you've seen the video. We observe the plummy judge sneering at Taylor. ("Why? WHY DID YOU DO THAT?" blah blah blah) Then she captures the crowd, takes control of the stage, thrills the other judges. Even the cleaned-up biker loves her. The plummy judge realizes he better change attitude fast if he wants to get out of there alive. So one reason that this has been watched 9,000,000 times is the sheer joy of seeing the 11-year-old best the toff. The rest is how adorable she is. The idle question is: at 45 seconds, Judge 3 falls sideways off his chair. Why? WHY |

I can't see where the judge was sneering - he was asking quite sensible questions of the contestant, questions that he thought that the audience would ask if they were in his seat. If one of my grandchildren had done the same thing I would probably ask 'why?'. Not unkind - merely curious as to why a child that age should have taken an interest in something that it definitely not mainstream. Maybe it was the English accent that gave you the negative impression. |

I thought he had been subjected to something like 'a piercing radio blast aimed towards Jupiter.' I thought he jumped up in horrible pain. Well, well. I have to differ with y'all about the first judge, though. The way he asks her is almost the same tone you would use to say "WHY? WHY did you yank up all the garden plants?" You can hear the corresponding defensiveness in her response. I believe he learned something and is a wiser and better person now. It's nice to hear from people who enjoy the video. It's not ridicule; laughter comes also from unexpected joy, and that's what I felt at the sudden discovery in that instant of how well she yodels and blends it with the rest of her singing, following just seconds after the similar surprise at how good her singing is. If I'd just heard her and not seen her I probably wouldn't have had the same reaction, but seeing a 12 year old suddenly do that is really shocking. I didn't see any sign that any of the judges had anything but great admiration for her from start to finish. I'm a little unclear about the title of the YouTube page: "Crazy yodeling." Crazy in the beatnik sense? There's certainly nothing insane, erratic, or unsound about it. |

They aren't very good quality recordings and I don't think they tell what song you're about to hear...but I did hear some I'd been looking for. And, to answer the rest of your question, I think the absurd overreaction is probably far too frequent on tv. I like to hope they have the decency to cringe with embarrassment when they look back on clips of themselves..but I somehow doubt that they do. |

There's a laid-back guy I enjoy called Cowboy Slim. Listen to him some lonely night. |

He has to introduce the contestants, and split the parade of talent up a little, and that's what he did. He chatted to the girl about her act, with typical English restraint. |

But his manner isn't unpleasant he's just curious. It might be a cultural thing. By way of comparison as an English person used to a typically more minimal presentation style than what seems the norm to an American audience, I find American interviewers often too sickly sychophantic and affected with big fake plastic smiles and stuff. But I wouldn't mind betting that the show got an English judge on to be the nasty bad man! Every TV panel like that has one, it's total pantomime. As is the Hoff's tired clowning. |

I saw no ridicule from the judges - just astonishment at the quality of the performance, and enjoyment of something completely unexpected and largely unfamiliar. It's a bit of an exaggeration to say Hasselhoff fell off his chair - and unfortunately, yes, that looks to me like fairly typical behaviour from a judging panel on that kind of show. |
