Try it in G

(G) Poverty Poverty Knock , My (C)Looom it is saying all (D) day
(G) Poverty Poverty Knock , the (C) gaffers to skinny to (D) pay
(G) Poverty Poverty Knock , (C) Keeping one eye on the (D) clock
(G) I know I can Guttle when (C) I hear my shuttle say (G)Poverty
   (D)Poverty (G) Knock

Though I am sure you could stick ALL sorts of passing minors and such in !!

You can get away with two chords (D and A7 are the easiest) - very handy when teaching beginners. More chords can be added as they gain in confidence.

Try putting in a G7 on the word Guttle in the last line - just makes it sound a little bit more interesting.

If you're going to do that, you should also add Cm on 'shuttle'...!

Capo 4

(C) Poverty Poverty Knock, My (F)Loom it is saying all (C) day
Poverty Poverty Knock, the (F) gaffers to skinny to (C) pay
Poverty Poverty Knock, (F) Keeping one eye on the (C) clock
I know I can Guttle when (F) I hear my shuttle say (C)Poverty
(G)Poverty (C) Knock

I prefer it this way but I know different people sing it with variations on the tune, let alone the chords! This is closer to the way the Spinners sang it which is where I picked it up from originally.
