Origins: Can anyone identify this song?

Hi all,

This request came to me indirectly via NEFFA. Can anyone help this fellow figure out what this song is?

"Allan (sp?) at Cheapo records suggested I network the NEFFA group (I am a some-time contra dancer anyway) for the name of song/singer/full lyrics/ or most dreamy of all, a recording of a song I cannot find, but remember from 35 years ago... It was folky, opened with a harmonica sounding like a passing train (think doppler effect), then a male singer and a different (?) male reading the lyrics in russian (?)... the lyrics I have are below. It starts:

I was a child
A Wild Child

Green as grass and running through each day
How time goes by
How time does tell
Do we hardly know each other
Do we know each other well?

----
I was a Pete Seeger fan so I thought it was him, but can't find it under his lists... I also believe it only came out on a 45-sized vinyl.

THANKS for ANY leads... I am seeking a full recording of it, but I will take any suggestions!"

My first thoughts are "I am a child" performed by Buffalo Springfield and written by Neil Young. It opens with harmonica.
