Lost Trousers - mid 70s duo -Weybridge Surrey (UK)

Firstly, if there is a more appropriate place for this request please tell me, I'm new here.

Back in the mid '70s a duo called "Trousers" played Wednesday nights at the Flintgate pub in Weybridge, Surrey to an enthusiastic following. They were called Trousers because they were a pair, and tended to get a bit dirty. Roger and Tim played guitar and banjo respectively, and were a superb and very talented act. Songs included standards like Whiskey in the Jar, San Fransisco Bay Blues, The Barley Mow, The Old Dun Cow, Lobster song, O'Reilley's Daughter as well as self penned items such as Wilfred the Parrot, Bubonic Blues and The Abortive Love Affair of Constable McLaggan and WPC Sadie Stick...They appeared on TV on Opportunity Knocks with a rather anodyne song entitled Bottoms, and produced a cassette themselves.

Where are they now? I have a feeling they may have originated in Ewell or Epsom - or somewhere that way but cannot be sure.

The reason I ask is because I recorded them one evening and have cleaned up the tape and put it on CD. It is something I think they'd be proud of.

Any leads will be gratefully recieved.

Welcome to the madhouse.
I don't know the answer, but this post will bump it up to the top, so maybe someone will see it who does.
It's a nice cryptic title, but I've found to my cost that the people you want to open the thread, don't. So maybe if you put a polite request to a mod they could add an explanitory bit like .. UK duo, or ... 70s Surrey group, it would get more response.
People here are very helpful and generous, but a lot of them are from the US.

"and we call trousers pants"
For some values of "we", and not in the country where Weybridge is in Surrey.

Speak for yourselves, O ye who dwell south of the 49th parallel. We are bilingual up here in the Great White North -- famous for it, in fact. Trousers or pants, your choice!

Hmm... I suppose if you wanted to be derogatory about the duo in question, and really confuse Americans at the same time, you could say "Trousers were really pants"!

Of course, both usages are present and correct here in Maine.

Does any Mudcatter know of the group in question? MASH has given a fair amount of information.

Thanks to various people for prodding me about this topic!

For anyone who wants to hear Trousers in their full glory at Abbey Road in May, 1977, the link above will take you to a set of MP3's for the album recorded there, "Mad Nellie Rides Again".

Enjoy

If you think they were good in the studio wait until you hear them live! I am sending Andy my CD which I hope he will make available alongside the album. Watch this space!

We were regulars at the Flintgate but I thought they played on a Monday. We also went to Abbey Road studios to play the part of the audience when they recorded their album. They were a great duo who also occasionally had a guest appearance from a very good recorder player.

Happy days!

I've updated the website to include the recently surfaced Bootleg Trousers "Down & Dirty". It's 30 years since I heard "Bubonic Blues" and I still know all the words!

Just go to http://www.andyleslie.com/Reboot/Trousers/index.htm and have a listen, these were funny and very rude songs!

The one song from their repertiore that I most want to find is the Walrus or the Walrus Song. If this is in any way traditional perhaps someone can point the way to it - if it was one of their own I fear it is now lost.

Can anyone help? Anyone remember the words? - if no joy here I'll start it as a new topic.

I remember seeing Trousers at 'Streets of London', Hampton Court; 'The Goat', Upper Halliford; 'The Magpie', Sunbury and 'The Feathers', Wraysbury. Both players, Roger and Tim, were superb musicians and could carry a fair tune. Sadly Roger is no longer with us. I have a copy of the album, and I have just downloaded it onto my ipod.
