Folk gathering, Easter, Okehampton Devon

I don't have many details yet but we've had a late booking to go and provide some music for a folky gathering at:

Betty Cottles Inn
Graddon Cross
Okehampton
Devon
EX20 4LR

Tel. 01837 55339

Betty Cottles

It's due to run Sat 3rd April through to Monday 5th April.

It looks like a beautiful location with 4 acres of grounds with camping, vanning, bunkhouse, B & B etc. It's a nice looking pub as well.

I think the weekend is planned to be mainly singarounds/ sessions etc with a few (?) guest slots. As far as I know it is all free. It is the first year it has been run, so why not come down and support it if you are not doing anything else?

Paul

Well, we've got the van back from the garage (and are now very poor) and we'll be setting off in the morning.

Talking to the Landlord at Betty Cottles he is very confident of a good turnout (he's moved the festivities to the "big" room apparently).

Here's to a great weekend of supping and singing.

Setting off to Devon tomorrow in the trusty old van this morning. It is newly adorned with a "Folk Against Facism" sticker (Wendy) and an "I love my banjo" sticker (Paul)!

Wonder how many bricks we'll get thrown at us and who they will be aiming for!!!

Banjiman, Nice to meet you and wendy on Saturday afternoon, and put names to faces. Had a lovely afternoon, shame there werent a few more people! did it get any busier? The pub really didnt advertise enough, or advertised to the wrong people! There is a wealth of folk talent in and around Okehampton. Most people I spoke to didnt even know it was happening! I hope they will have another go next year and publicise it a bit better, had we known sooner we would have gone up there and camped. as it was we had already made other arrangements! Nice to see you again too Ramblin Stu!
Still we managed a mini mudgather.....
Hawker, Sussex Carole, Crane Driver, Banjiman, Ramblin Stu, any more???

Cheers, lucy

......I think you forgot Mrs Banjiman? I can't think of any other Mudcatters.

They're was some audience in on Saturday and Sunday nights but it was not what you would call packed. I've sent you the full story (as I understand it) on Facebook.

The pub is talking about running another one over August Bank Holiday weekend, they said this should be confirmed in the next couple of weeks. We impressed on them the importance of involving local folk clubs.

Great venue though and has the potential to be a great little festival.

Good to meet you all and hopefully we'll catch you in the summer.

Paul & Wendy.

I'd have been interested in joining you all if we hadn't already had family commitments over Easter. I'll watch this space for details of any future events.
