I've been kvetching about ugly shoes for years, and I recently thought we had passed through our ugliest shoe phase around the time people started rejecting the ugliest of SUVs, the Hummer. But oh, was I ever wrong. Exhibit A Exhibit B |

18 Mar 10 - 06:17 PM (#2867186) Subject: RE: BS: Brand new ways to torture the feet From: katlaughing I saw those on some website the other day and the first thing that came to mind was the foot-binding in China. Next to clitorectomies, this is one of the most heinous things to do to a little girl. As to the women who wear and model these...slaves to fashion, indeed. I cannot imagine the problems they may have later in life. |

I particularly like the chestnut crushing clogs from France, and I just luuurved Ella Fitzgerald's midnight blue satin shoes with diamantes over the heels - could imagine them sparkling in the lights when she was on stage - they were very pretty. But not ugly. Sorry...... Cheers JennieG |

19 Mar 10 - 02:07 AM (#2867419) Subject: RE: BS: Brand new ways to torture the feet From: CarolC I've worn high heels twice in my life. And by that, I mean higher than about an inch and a half to two inches. Once at my sister's wedding (and I accidentally made a spectacular entrance to the bouquet throwing event by sliding into it like I was sliding to home base, bridesmaid's dress accompanying me like a billowing parachute), and once (same pair of shoes) for Halloween. That was enough for me. |

Yes, and I'm surprised no-ones made the implied fetish reference. Lots of it about these days in design. The shoes CarolC linked to look like a rocked up cat-walk version of your classic ballet boot. Such shoes are a part of bondage wear & dominance / submission sex play, and are specifically intended to render the submissive party incapacitated and vulnerable to the dominant one - with a side-order of discomfort and pain of course. Be warned this piccy has pink hair and and boobies in it - for anyone easily offended by pink hair Ballet Boot |

19 Mar 10 - 04:38 AM (#2867452) Subject: RE: BS: Brand new ways to torture the feet From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) But further to RB's point - I'd just like to add the important difference between normalised mass cultural representations of 'woman' fetishised as a potential sexual victim, and what two people do in their own imaginations and bedroom. |

19 Mar 10 - 04:48 AM (#2867460) Subject: RE: BS: Brand new ways to torture the feet From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Further to the crippling effect of high heels and fetishising of woman as victim. I mean how many times have we seen some typical dolly bird / airhairded bimbo character with big tits tottering along down some dark alley while being pursued by a 'shadow'. Cue "scream" and her clippy cloppy trying to run but... Oh No! She almost immediately falls over (skirt half way up her thigh, but not quite exposing her crotch (well we don't want to see her pissing herself as it would ruin the aesthetic) as said shadow looms over her... Glint of knife (ie: symbol of shadow bloke's dick) Fade out. I think I've seen this exact same scene again and again in virtually every American crime drama and film created. But it was especially popular throughout the seventies and eighties. |

19 Mar 10 - 10:55 PM (#2867960) Subject: RE: BS: Brand new ways to torture the feet From: GUEST,leeneia Back in the 70's I helped with costumes in a theater troupe. There was a beautiful young woman in the troupe who turned her ankle while wearing a pair of high wedge heels. She had had 3-4 operations on her ankle to try to repair the damage. Whenever she saw a woman wearing shoes like that, she told them about what had happened to her. Sad, isn't it? |

19 Mar 10 - 11:55 PM (#2867974) Subject: RE: BS: Brand new ways to torture the feet From: LadyJean My first thought seeing those shoes was OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only in larger type. How would you walk in those things? I am, quite possibly, the only Christian in the history of the church to have been baptized in yellow high heeled pumps. But the heels weren't that high, and they were roughly the same shape as the heel on my foot. I was looking at sandals today with roses on the toes, thinking I might consider buying them if they went on sale, though of course they might rub blisters. With Exibit A and Exibit B, my feet would hurt so much I wouldn't notice blisters. |
