Hi, Lily-
Can you post what you have? That might give us a start. There's a YouTube recording here (click), but I don't have time to try a transcription. It sounds familiar. I wonder if it's traditional.

Hi, Joe.
This is most of what I can get. There will be a couple of words that I cannot understand.

SOLDIER GIRL

It is the morning I must leave
My love once said behind me
Remember me each day I'm gone
And send a prayer, all for the love of a soldier girl

I know not where the wind will blow
I only know that I will follow
To where the guns and tanks shall rule
So far from home
All for the love of your soldier girl
All for the love, all for the love of your soldier girl

A rich girl she will go to school
A poor girl has few chances
To fight the demon poverty, her family
All for the love of your soldier girl
All for the love, all for the of your soldier girl

I walk beside my brother there
My sister in her shoes
If faltered we return today
From the strains of war I must take care
All for the love of your soldier
All for the love, all for the love of your soldier girl

Here's how I hear it. My changes are in boldface.

SOLDIER GIRL
Diana Jones

It is the morning I must leave
My love once sat behind me
Remember me each day I'm gone
And send a prayer,
All for the love of your soldier girl

I know not where the wind will blow
I only know that I will follow
To where the guns and tanks shall roll
So far from home
All for the love of your soldier girl
All for the love, all for the love of your soldier girl

A rich girl she will go to school
A poor girl has few chances
To fight the demon poverty, for her family
All for the love of your soldier girl
All for the love, all for the love of your soldier girl

I walk beside my brother there
My sister in her shoes
If faltered we return today*
From strains of war of us take care
All for the love of your soldier girl
All for the love, all for the love of your soldier girl
All for the love, all for the love of your soldier girl

[* I really don't know what this line means. It might be "If altered" but that doesn't make much sense either.]

thanks for that Jim much appreciated, i am a real fan of hers now, the simplicity of her songs is very refreshing
