It was the night of the coup in Moscow, although I did not hear about it until the following day. I had a huge crowd and I got them singing all sorts of nonsense, but the most fun was getting them to sing the Beatles "Back in the USSR" along with all the harmonies and aeroplane noises too. I made loot in several different currencies and over twelve hundred Czech Crowns, which I never spent. My son has the tin of money now. I was told at the time that a Czech worker earned ca.2,000 in a month. The actual money meant less to me, but boy was the show fun! |

One recurring memory of the trip is going to sleep in what I thought was a field, but on waking I discovered to be someone's back garden! Another memory is having a good crowd around me, and a fair few bob in the case, when a nosey parker approached from the crowd with the sole intention of checking out how much I was earning. It so happened I was just starting to sing 'It Ain't Me Babe', so was able to sing 'Go away from my money.....'. The crowd (this was in Holland) got it and broke out laughing. Memories. |
