Obit: Vicki Williams (N Wales)

25 Mar 10 - 04:42 PM (#2871820)
Subject: Obit: Vicki Williams (N Wales)
From: My guru always said

This news grieves me, but Trefor has asked me to let you all know that Vicki passed away this evening. She'd been taken into hospital on Monday and it had become obvious that Vicki would not be able to fight this any more.

I know that Vicki treasured all her Folk Family and appreciated the good thoughts sent to her via the Mudcat. I'm certain that she would have wanted to say goodbye herself, but you all know that.

Trefor has expressed a wish that the news of Vicki's passing be spread far and wide so that all their friends are informed as quickly as possible. I know that you will all help with this wish.

Sometime soon there will be a musical Celebration of Vicki's Life, that was her wish. And we will make sure that happens, remembering Vicki is a pleasure.

Goodbye sweet Vicki, sending love and hugs to Trefor and all their family at this time.

I had hoped she would win but sometimes what we want doesn't happen. I got a feeling it hadn't really sunk in with Trefor yet as she seemed to be improving.

Another one has joined the festival in the sky.

Lots of love and hugs to Trefor and everyone else she was 'special' to.

Thank you for so many wonderful times, lots of laughter and your beautiful music - Your "happy ghost" is with us now and always will be and particularly special to us, as you know "Myfanwy."

"Give me your hand, gentle Myfanwy,
Only so that I can say the word 'farewell'."

Farewell Vicki, until we meet again in that big Folk Festival in the sky!

On behalf of Clwb Gwerin Conwy Folk Club our condolences to Trefor and all of Vicki's nearest and dearest at this time of great sadness.

When it is known where and when we will be celebrating Vicki's life and contribution to Folk Music please can I be emailed, in order to inform my club members, at: chair@conwyfolkclub.org.uk. Thanks.

I noticed many of the visitors here knew Vicki only slightly, yet were still moved to write. I think this is a true indication of how Vicki was able to make a lasting connection very quickly.

If you want to know more about Vicki, her and Trefor's website is at: www.treforandvicki.co.uk
So much more to say and sing - it will be said and sung at the many festivals and clubs where Vicki was known.
Tony Franks

"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come: so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

Just spoke to Tref. He's doing well under the circumstances-sorting out the arrangements. He still has to find a venue for after the funeral. He likes the idea of a Jacob's Join, like at Col K's funeral which would mean everyone bringing a plate of food, so he doesn't have to worry about that side of things.

Trefor has just confirmed that he has now got a venue where we can all celebrate Vicki's life after the funeral on Wednesday 7th April.

Details:

The Funeral will be held at 1.30pm at:

Colwyn Bay Crematorium,
Bron y Nant Road,
Mochdre
Colwyn Bay
LL28 4YN

Then there is about a half-hour drive to:

Denbigh Rugby Club
Graig Road
Denbigh
LL16 5US

There are two large rooms and a bar will be provided. No set time limit to finish. Also there is a large carpark if anyone wants to bring campervans or caravans. The Rugby Club has agreed to people staying, provided all is left tidy.

As mentioned before if we make this a 'Jacob's Join' - i.e. Bring a plate of food you like and a contribution to the buffet, then Tref doesn't have to worry about catering.

Let's give Vicki the send off she deserves!

Trefor's friend Stuart, who has arranged the rugby club venue says it will not be possible for campervans or caravans to go to the crematorium, but has confirmed that they can stay at the rugby club the night before - best to get there before 10.00 pm while the staff are still there.

It would help to have some idea of how many vans are coming i.e campervans and caravans so that arrangements for transport from the rugby club can be arranged either via car sharing or if necessary a mini bus/coach. As I am not on mudcat as much as she is Hils has kindly agreed that she will collate this information for Stuart so please can anyone intending to take their campervan or caravan send Hils a PM, also when you might be arriving.

Many thanks for this,

Mary

It would probably be best to let me know about vans, arrival & transport within the next couple of days if at all possible. If there's a question of hiring a bus it would probably need to be sorted before Easter & I'll be a bit busy next weekend.

Many thanks to Merek'n'Dary for liaising with Stuart (and thanks to Stuart too) and letting us know about the arrangements.

Karen & I would most likely have two seats available for lifts to Mochdre; it all depends on whether or not the Rugby Club lets us put the tent up---it's a very long way to drag a big caravan at 45 mph,and we have a band "gig" the night before, so the caravan option is looking increasingly less likely. But we'll get there somehow !!

Could anyone who has offered to call in at the club to give lifts please let me know their mobile number if I don't already have it (hope we have signal) and we'll figure needs on the morning itself. I'd suggest that leaving the club at 12.30 latest would allow for any traffic problems, hopefully.

Just heard from Mary that there are no dogs allowed at the Rugby Club, not even in cars or camper vans I'm afraid. I hope this won't cause any problems for anyone but they were very definite about it!!

Just spoken to Trefor too, he's been busy with organising & communicating as you can imagine. He's got a good friend in Stuart who has been helping him keep on track with his positive attitude. He's so glad for all the messages here from so many good friends made in the folk world over the years.

Apparently car parking at the crem is a little limited, so car-sharing will be the way to go. Many thanks to Ann & Dave, Rhiannon & Mick, Karen & Roger & Sue Jones for offering to give lifts to those with campers. Anyone else in need please let me know!

Karen has been in contact with the RC via Merek & Dary, and it seems that TENTS are OK as well (if it's a long way to tow a caravan) ,although the RC stresses that there are no outside toilets ,so your own "campa-potty" would be useful.

So sad to hear this dreadful news. She will be sadly missed by a great many, not just on the folk scene.

Sincerest condolences to Trefor and family.

I asked Trefor's friend Stuart what Trefor wants people to wear to Vicki's funeral. Trefor is wearing mourning but I think the message is wear what you want. Stuart has suggested people might like to wear something blue as this was Vicki's favourite colour.

We have been singing songs for her, listening to Vicki and looking at Richard Atkins' videos of her this weekend and she has been very much with us. Also we are all thinking of Trefor and Faye and the rest of the family and have been sharing many happy memories of Vicki.

I only had confirmation of Vicki's passing today. I didn't know Vicki well, but she seeemd a lovely lady. I can't really add to what everyone else has said. I'll be thinking of Trefor on Wednesday.

I've quickly edited some of the raw material I filmed at the Miskin at Easter festival 2006, and loaded it to Youtube as a tribute to Vicki. I didn't want to delay by adding titles or doing anything clever with the sound levels etc.

It's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X99WiIib1AI

I just spent Easter Weekend at Old Keepers. I did not know Vicki or Trefor, but I could tell that Vicki was well-loved. Vicki's music played through the stereo in the lounge and on the "survivor's night", Richard conjured up some video from Miskin and a few videos of past Easters at Old Keepers. Vicki was in much of the footage and her singing and humour came through quite well.

I wish I could have known her.

I know that many are gathered as I write this to celebrate Vicki's life and to recount many memories, stories and most of all her music.

Tonight at Cottingham Live! I will sing for Vicki.

In peace,
Debra Cowan

we have just returned from a very moving day, celebrating Vicki's life.
It was also a celebration of Trefor's future. He showed such strength throughout the day and sang and played beautifully in the evening. There is no doubt that Trefor will come through this and continue to grow on the Folk scene.

Love you mate.

Andy

The sun was shining with a spring warmth as we spent an afternoon on a Welsh hillside with friends old and some new and singing for lovely Vicki. Hearing Trefor sing really was quite a moment. Mix of happy and sad all in one. Some other lovely singing tributes to Vicki, it was lovely to be with you all.
Thank you,
Liz xxx
