05 Apr 10 - 04:55 PM (#2880209) Subject: Songs for a Wedding From: Marie27 Hi Folks I am looking for some suggestions for two songs we can sing at my wedding in four weeks time in a woodland ceremony. The first song will be sung by an ancient oak tree, and the second after we have said some words to each other. We are looking for something loving / suitable, easy to sing (for non-folkies), with a chorus or repeating line, with a 'cheery' tune. So any suggestions would be brilliant. ("Sorry the Day I was Married", comes to mind!) "Eileen A-Roon" is pretty, but most appropriate if you're of Irish descent. And it doesn't have a refrain that repeats. "Roseville Fair" would be more appropriate for the reception. ("Here's a glass to all true lovers...") In reading over your post again, I see that you probably meant "beside" an oak tree, not that the oak tree would be singing! (interesting image!) Best Wishes to You Both! |

In case you don't want to look at it, this is the one I made. "At my neice's wedding, Keith and I sang the song both the Copper's Wedding song and the one that he and Lynne Heraud recorded - A Passionate Shepherd to his love, or otherwise known as "Come live with me and be my love" (from their "Stars in my crown" CD - words by Christopher Marlowe and tune by Lynne)." What I missed out on that occasion was that, when I started singing "Come live with me and be my love", I burst into tears about half a verse in - and someone was videoing the whole thing. I haven't searched for a long time and now there was a window on the right where you could hear snippets of the Copper Family singing part of the track and also In the Harmony way singing a similar clip. then you can pay in dollars and download the full MP3 track. oh the wonders of the modern internet. At the bottom of the words there is still the old style notes to get the basic tune Anyway thank you Kitty |

(I think Randy Sparks wrote it, didn't he, BTW.) Tom Paxton's "Outward Bound" is a great wedding song. (He may have even written it for a wedding.) Outward Bound (cover) The lyrics and chords are shown too. Nana Mouskouri does a wonderful job on this song too, but all I can find at YT is her recording of "En Partant" (the French version of the lyrics) Here's another excellent wedding song: "(I'd Be Me) Just Loving You". (The video is blurry because it's from a thumbnail, but the audio is fine. This is a cover of a song by a group whose name I'm blanking on at the moment. It's something like "The Kanes.")
