08 Apr 10 - 02:17 PM (#2882253) Subject: RE: Mudcat's own Amos CDs From: olddude That is why I said please record in a recent thread. Amos is a fine performer and wonderful song writer, he is a master, but like most on the Cat - shy or worry about people thinking they are self promoting or something. When I say this I am talking in general about everyone here. The problem with that thinking is, music takes us away from all of the crap in life, even just for a moment. If we don't share our music we cheat our friends out of one of the best escapes we have from life's struggles , namely our own music ... I wish everyone would stop worrying what others will think and post their songs for everyone to enjoy. As we age, as we lose our friends to illness, what is left for our friends and family? Our music. Jerry nailed it with his "handful of songs". One of the saddest things is seeing someone write "you should have heard them play, I wish I could hear it again" and the music is lost because of a worry that others will think you are self promoting or some other nonsense" Please share your music ... it is important for us all. If someone doesn't like it, hey they just won't listen to it. But dollars to donuts I don't care if someone recorded it on a built in speaker mike, I am sure most will because it was a friend who sang it or played it or wrote it ... and because of that, it is precious. WE lost Barry, how sad would it be if we could not listen to his brilliant shanties on youtube. At least he is still here with us, in our hearts and in his performance ... PLEASE RECORD PEOPLE, and please share |
08 Apr 10 - 08:10 PM (#2882486) Subject: RE: Mudcat's own Amos CDs From: kendall YES! record. It's later than you think. I took it for granted that I would always sing, now I can't and there were so many songs I want to sing. Old Dude, here's an old saying that you touched on: "The function of music is to free the mind from the tyranny of conscious thought." |
09 Apr 10 - 07:56 AM (#2882744) Subject: RE: Mudcat's own Amos CDs From: maeve Trying this again next week. We'll see how far I get. I suspect even friends will be bored by all vocals and no instruments but I agree with Kendall and Dan; record what you can when you can and pass along whatever you harvest. If I hadn't gone beyond my comfort zone by recording and sending lyrics and recordings to a few trusted folks here my last two years of songwriting, poetry, and my versions of traditional material would be gone in the flames. maeve |

02 Jan 11 - 06:37 PM (#3065852) Subject: RE: Mudcat's own Amos CDs From: Amos Forgive me for not responding to these embarassingly flowery remarks. I just found this thread while looking for something else. I have finally tracked down the correct author of one of my favorite chick songs of all time, "Say You Will". Maybe Dan could add this credit tot he posting where he put the tracks up. It is by English songwriter and performer Paul Metsers paul@mintcottage.plus.com www.paulmetsers.co.uk www.sagemcrafts.co.uk He deserves kudos for the beauty of the song. Thank you all for your kind remarks, I am floored. A |
