US Marching Bands Back

In the best athletic tradition our committee in charge of cock ups has reversed it's earlier decision and the USA marching bands are back in the opening ceremony.
Probably the best decision in the circumstances ( they were about to have their arse sued off).

Regards Ted

Ted, if the Canadian Marching bands are there, could you keep them for a while?
Rick

Rick,
I can not think of any group of people of any nation (inc OZ)which I would less like to keep, watch or listen to.
Well----- yes I can: KKK, Hells Angels, cloggers, tipplers, Morris dancers etc.
But i guess you know what I mean

Regards, Ted.

G'day,
I agree Ted, that the about face was the only possible decision, although the original idea was the wrong one.

The games may be in Sydney but they will not have an Aussie character. As Dobe Newton of the Bushwackers said on Saturday night, "whoever sings Waltzing Matilda at the games will sing it in an American accent". The Aussie cultural cringe is alive & kicking: whenever an Aussie sings, folkies excepted, you'll hear a fake American accent.

Cheers,
Alan

G'Day jO 77, and Alan,
Yeah, We have a very alive C & W scene and export groups AC-DC, Men at Work, etc etc all done in an American accent.
I was watching an episode of Ballykissangle on the box and there was the group in an Irish pub doing it with American accents.
And yes, LEJ you do have an accent (it shows up in the way you spell). Everyone except me has an accent.

Regards, Ted.:-)>

actually, I would like to thank Australia for allowing our marching bands back in to the Olympics, and I am happy to rescind (sp?) my boycott of Australian Culture. I will now start paying attention to the Paul Hogan Subaru Outback ads, take my Midnight Oil CDs out of mothballs, and unchain the koala bear that I have been confining to a utility closet in my basement. I will also take the jar of Vegemite out of the back of the cupboard and put it to good use, filling nail-holes in the basement drywall.

LEJ,

I wouldn't worry about feeling obliged to use the Vegemite, it is now a naturalised American citizen and the only claim it makes to having once being Australian is that it was conceived and born here. Lots of our cultural and culinary icons seem to be emigrating to the U.S. and Canada in the last few years. So, you can have Olivia Newton John as well.

I always wanted to have Olivia Neutron Bomb. Can I still? Can I? CanI?

Oh, by the way, for the collector of dance groups, we do have here in England a morris dancing side which wears M/C colours and uses scaf pole/old silencers instead of sticks, all topped with replica wwII nazi helmets. Hilarious. Even been on TV.
