Dick Miles aka 'Good Soldier Schweik' (I must ask him about that one!) is at Maidenhead Folk Club this Thursday (15th April);

'Incredibly, it's five years since Folk Veteran Dick last brought his melodeon, concertina and guitar from Ballydehob to Maidenhead. Expect traditional and contemporary material with a leaning towards the Sea from one of the leading exponants of the art of Folk entertainment'

Come along and see for yourself!

We will be there, Dick always gives us an excellent night at Maidenhead. I may even ask him about the song "The Girls From Gloucestershire" again I was positive it was him that sang it in about 1990 or so.

Note that 'miles' is Latin for 'soldier'.

The character of Josef Švejk is a development of this theme. Through possibly-feigned idiocy or incompetence he repeatedly manages to frustrate military authority and expose its stupidity in a form of passive resistance: the reader is left unclear, however, as to whether Švejk is genuinely incompetent, or acting quite deliberately with dumb insolence. These absurd events reach a climax when Švejk, wearing a Russian uniform, is mistakenly taken prisoner by his own troops.
Murray,Dick is an abbreviation of Richard.
