Tech: LogicPro 9 question

19 Apr 10 - 04:29 AM (#2889606)
Subject: Tech: LogicPro 9 question
From: Nigel Paterson

I posted this question on the Apple Forum recently, but received no responses. Any Logic users on Mudcat able to help?

"The eight bar intro of a piano solo, which has upward rolling arpeggios, beginning on C1, the score displays in bass clef only. From bar 9, the score displays correctly using treble & bass clefs. The first & lowest note at bar 9 is C2. As the piece progresses, the lowest note reached is F1, but the score still displays correctly. How can I correct the single stave intro please?"

MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.6.2)   Axiom 49 midi controller, LogicStudio 9 (64 bit)

                     Thanks in anticipation,
                                                             Nigel P.

I don't use the program, but I would have thought it is only showing the necessary clef, until the music requires more.
Add a couple of treble notes in the first bar, then, once the layout has corrected, replace these with rests.

Hope that works/helps

Cheers
Nigel

Tried to 'fool' Logic with the addition of some treble notes, but sadly to no avail. The user manual is not helpful either. Not to worry, the answer's out there somewhere,

Nigel, I use Logic but first I write out the part I want into Sibelius. Then I make a MIDI
file of the part. I simply bring it over into the Arrange area and select the right instrument
from the Media column. I like to compose in notation and then transfer to Logic. This way I can add or subtract from the score at will. Notational functions from sequencers are clumsy compared to dedicated notation programs.

I can see the sense in this Frank, a good way to work. Buying LogicStudio stretched my finances somewhat so adding Sibelius is not an option at the moment, but certainly something I would consider for the future,

This free programme (MuseScore) has a Mac version and does similar stuff to Sibelius - score writing and MIDI export amongst other things.
Quack!

Another interesting suggestion, thanks GtD. Had a good look too at 'logicprohelp' (thanks mattkeen) Give me a couple of days & I'll have this problem sorted for sure...can't go wrong with all this help around!

Thank you for acknowledging a suggestion, Nigel. A lot of time on mudcat, people who ask questions, request lyrics or tunes, never bother to even say they have read the replies. It is really nice, on an otherwise crap day, to have someone say "thanks".
Quack!
Geoff.

Geoff, I'm sorry to hear that you had a crap day, but pleased that a simple 'thank you' could make such a difference. You introduced me to a program I was not familiar with, one which actually could turn out to be very useful...& for that I'm grateful.
I have solved the score problem which prompted this thread (with some additional help from elsewhere on the web!). The solution is probably of interest to LogicPro users only, but here it is anyway:
"Open Inspector/expand track parameter window/select style, choose piano/Go into Score Mode/expand top window/select style, choose piano".
I imagine setting these parameters before recording a piano part is a good idea, but if one forgets, then setting them retrospectively seems to correct any 'delinquent' score display. Thank you all for your contributions,
