Lyr Req: The Lord's Strong Hand Will Hold

I keep looking for the complete words to the following hymn from which I only remember (or mis-remember!) the following fragments:

The Lord's strong hand will hold
Wherever I may be.
That promise brighter shines than gold
And all is well with me.

Refrain:
Therefore I thank my God,
My help on every road
I shall not lack for light or love
Therefore I thank my God.

Whatever is my share
With that I'll do my best
To see the sunshine everywhere
And leave to Him the rest.

Hoping this will ring a bell with someone. Thanks & blessings.

KR

some other lyrics come to mind, but I don't remember the order..

I sang this in an elementary school chorus festival in L.A. in 1966.

His Word my guide will prove
My help on every road (?)
I shall not want for light or love
Therefore I thank my God.

some more lyrics...
I think it ends with this

Contented all along life's road
And happy in my heart.

Jean, yes! Thank you for those extra words, which I had forgotten. They are definitely correct.

Not only is that the same song, but I also learned it in elementary school in LA in about 1960! Capistrano Ave School in Canoga Park. The chorus director was a tall inspirational woman whose name I think was Nancy Miller.

Were you in the same school? What else can you remember? I would love to hear more. And thank you for this little trip down memory lane.

When I search for "The Lord's strong hand will hold" in Google Books, two books come up. If you follow the links, you might be able to find one of those books in a library near you.

Interestingly, both of those books were published by Silver Burdett in 1953.

Well, it's not Grades 4 or 5 of New Music Horizons. Those are the only books I have in that series. Anybody have others? Charles?

Our elementary school chorus sang this at 79th Street School (now McKinley Avenue) in the mid 50s.
The Lord's strong hand will hold
Wherever I may be.
That promise brighter shines than gold
And all is well with me.

Refrain:
Therefore I trust my God
(Our music teacher emphasized the "t" at the end of trust.) Been looking for this song for years so I'm glad to see a discussion about it.

I think the last line is "contented as I walk life's road..."

We sang that at Beachy Ave. elementary school (Pacoima, CA) in the mid-late 1950s. It's hard to believe that singing this kind of thing was once allowed in public school; nowadays the ACLU would throw a fit.

Oh wow ?? I have been searching for the full lyrics of this song for many years. I sang this song at A Leo Weil Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA in the 1950’s. Thank you for adding a few more lines to those I remember. It’s no wonder we all remember the first line as in my thinking it is by far the most important. The Lord’s strong hand had held me for nearly 68 years. Whenever I need to feel that strong hand I hum the tune and the few lines I’ve remembered. Thank you all ????
