Whitby Folk Week dates this year

The website says 21-27 August.

It seems weird to start a festival on a Saturday and end it on a Friday, is that right?

I dare say there'll be things on the preceding Friday night but running to end on the Fri night leaves the second weekend for you to go to another festival! ie Towersey, Wadebridge, Shrewsbury.
Similarly Sidmouth runs Fri night to Fri night then Broadstairs starts the Saturday following and runs to the Fri night again.

Starting on Saturday and finishing on Friday night makes it a week, which is what it says on the tin.

Nobody seems to have answered Jack's question, but yes, that is right.... it always runs from the Saturday through to the Friday just before the bank holiday weekend. A seven day festival.

My question was answered clearly enough. I now have the information I need, the next bit is finding the time and money...

Just in case those of you who haven't been to Whitby and are wondering why the arrangement is Saturday to Friday. It's simply that, as it's a seaside holiday town, people book a week's holiday in B&B's etc in Whitby from Sat-Fri nights, which means there would be next to no accommodation on the Friday before.

I believe they are still wanting stewards Jack. That would solve at least one part of your problem. Check out the website.

Any info on the official & unofficial festival campsites?

I don't fancy leaving a holiday destination on a BH Friday, there is always a logic, and traffic is not logical, avoiding it IS.

Most folks leave on the Saturday (going against the flow of Bank Holiday traffic, initially at least) as the final events of Friday last well into the night. If you pack up promptly you are out of the "holiday area" before the rush starts.

Some like to stay on a while (5 years and counting in my own case) but the temporary camp sites don't run on after Saturday, so alternative accommodation is required. It is a lovely place for a visit, but it would be only fair to warn that Bank Holiday weekends here are very busy as a rule, many residents try to stay home or head inland for 2-3 days.

Whitby dates are officially 20th to 26th August 2011.
That is indeed Saturday to Friday. Those of us who party till late on the final Friday still get up in time to leave town comfortably before the Bank Holiday hordes descend. Actually it's quite a joy to drive down the Malton bypass and watch the head to tail queue going in the other direction.

I wonder if Guest 9.30 has confused Whitby with the February reunions in Sidmouth? 18-20 for singers in the Anchor and musicians in the Radway.

Looking forward, anyway, to next August in the Station, Endeavour, etc, etc.

Thanks kitty, Paul and Guest M and C. Sidmouth would have been a very BIG mistake, but it must have been the spring session I have heard about. Thanks very much. TTFN Unicornman. Guest.
