Just a drive-by to point out a thread at Language Log that might amuse some people.

Thanks for that link. It's wonderful. Scroll up to the top for the revised version of John Kanaka:
"I thought I heard the old man say
Eyjafjallajökull blew today
we'll fly tomorrow but not today
Eyjafjallajökull blew today

Both a lovely updating of an island chantey and a lesson in how to (sort of) pronounce Eyjafjallajökull.

Also some other good suggestions for volcano chanteys in the discussion.
Blessings,
Barbara

Im old school and I have never seen such a bloody fiasco in all my born days.

This world is being restructured by fucking idiots?

I rarely swear.

A very uplifting chantey and I'm sure it will be the hit of the Mystic Sea Music Festival this year.

Thanks, skarpi. What about the o with the dots above it?

In German, that would mean saying long a (as in 'stay') and rounding the lips. Is that how it is done in Icelandic?

A Yankee plane flew into ash
Blow, boys, blow

Blow, eyjafjallajökull, Blow
