Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me find any more out about the song The Cry of Man, based on the poem by Harry Kemp. I am going to sing it at a gig soon, but the only recording I've heard is Mary Margaret O'Hara singing it on the 2006 cd, Rogue's Gallery. Does anyone have any information about the song itself, and who has done the best recordings?

Thanks very much for your help.

Claire-

Harry Kemp (1883-1960) was known as the "Tramp Poet" and "The Poet of the Dunes" when he was a summer resident in Provincetown, Massachusetts. He had been a deep-water sailor for years, before settling ashore in Greenwich Village. He certainly led a very interesting life and is only now being rediscovered by folk music performers.
