But I think it's a good idea for a thread to contain a few facts: The video came from a report by Steve Hartman in an "Assignment America" segment on CBS News, May 1, 2009. The story is about 71-year-old Andy Mackie, a Scottish-born retired horse trainer of Chimacum, Washington (near Port Townsend, on the Olympic Peninsula). Starting with funds that he saved by discontinuing his medications, he bought cheap harmonicas and started teaching kids to play them. He also makes and teaches something he calls a "strum stick" (which is shaped sorta like a Backpacker guitar but has only 3 strings, like a mountain dulcimer, and is probably a lot cheaper than a Martin). Now, anyone who comes looking for this thread might have a chance of finding it with a search engine. |
