Now, I like the Whiskey Jack because it's proper name is Canada Jay. And it exemplifies Canucks. It's friendly, unassuming and relatively intelligent. Why, back when I used to hunt, I trained one to help me hunt grouse (I have more stories). And, it's cute as a button but not flashy or flaunting. And certainly not as aggressive as a Blue Jay, hoped for by the Tory politicians... Blue Jays routinely follow Canada Jays around and mug them for the grub they find. Of course, the Canada Jay, Gray Jay, Whiskey Jack, Moosebird, Camp Robber also identifies with our rednecks like Shane... unattended food is spirited away with swiftness and cunning, much as Shane would swipe the beer ya set out on the porch ta chill in the cold air. So, The Canada Jay represents many Canucks and I avidly support it's rise aloft. Soar, little Moosebird, soar. |

Indeed, as per my post, they are very friendly. Now, geese, ther's an arguement I don't want. As far as the loon, well that just ain't gonna happen - are you Looney Tunes? The Northern Ontario Shania is surely a striking bird. Varying in a variety of plummage of striking colours, it sings in a like range of song. It's tail is especially admired by many, but since it is so flighty, few ever get to pluck the odd feather. However, it's range in Canada is limited to NO and it mainly lives in the southern USA. Not a good candidate. bankley... the Thunderin' Tundra Booby is a bird of note, but not a monogamous one, which may detract from it's chances. This particular Boody, genus Anderson and species Pam, is a striking bird, which can soar to tremendous heights because of it's large and powerful breast but would be a poor choice to commit to. |

Francophones would be specially pleased by that choice, and it is a songbird almost without peer. Then there's the Plaid Dawn Cherrypicker, an extremely aggressive bird with spectacular plumage, a high white "collar", and a tremendously loud and continuous cry that drowns out everything else in the vicinity. These highly active creatures are often seen accompanied, oddly enough, by neat white pitbull dogs who seem to share some sort of symbiotic relationship with the Plaid Dawn Cherrypicker. |

We have a large permanent (resident) population of them here in Kansas, along with additional ones that migrate through in multiple waves. Yes, it has an amazing song voice but it's surlely not representative of the Canucks who think this particular bird should not migrate north again. Hopefully, those that are of this mind can be satisfied with "birdwatching" this particular species on TV. The Tufted Tit-Mouse? I prefer the Puffy variety. Such soft plummage and fairly rare. My first encounter with a bird was of the puffy variety. I have been a fan ever since. As for Sap Suckers... hmmm... nevermind. That would be a real cockup. |

The couple who bought it from us encouraged a trapper, but I was too soft-hearted. No- definitely not the beaver. The raven is the bird of the Crows Nest Pass, southern Alberta and British Columbia. |

That way, it seems that it matters how they feel, but no harm can be done. The national bird of Costa Rica, a land of rare and colorful birds, is the clay-colored robin, a dull-looking creature. But it's friendly, you'll see it around your neighborhood, and it sings a pretty song. I'm pretty sure it was the children's choice for the national bird. |

See the NHL thread. Even The Cherry, touted above as a candidate by Little Hawk, has voiced his disdain for same due to recent events. Although it was definitely celebarted during the Limpics, it has fallen from it's lofty aerie with a resounding WTFITBS? I would support the raven as my second choice. But it would have to be a bog raven. Few city folk know much about the remote bog raven. Extremely intelligent and communal, the large bog raven fears not even the eagle. I have seen them put the boots to bald eagles. They fear not of any creature except, possibly, humans who destroy their habitat. |

It's a common raven, but it's one that claims the best breeding grounds (remote wilderness), thereby being the largest and most intelligent. They are huge compared to most ravens seen by people travelling the roadways or even "backwoods" lumbering roads. Bog Raven is what my old man used to call them... just a plain old VERY large raven. |

The beaver, suggested above, must be considered suspect, particularly since the discovery of what can only be a "training camp" of some sort where many advocates of "beavering" appear to have been gathering for several decades. No determination has been made (or at least none has been published) to suggest what illicit plan(s) may be hatching there, but the simple size and population of the encampment suggest that it must be a meeting - perhaps training - place for threatening and nefarious risks to us all.
