11 Aug 99 - 11:57 PM (#104157) Subject: I just talked to Alison in OZ for FREE!! From: katlaughing Dear Mudcatters! It is TRUE! We were in the folk chat thingy she set up on ICQ, discussing Mediaring, go here for info on it in another thread, and she dialed my computer up, I put on my microphone and we had a quick chat, free of charge, no long distance or anything! And, I didn't have to hang up my computer connection for her to reach me. It was totally KOOL and AWESOME! A few words were "kicked" and there was a little delay, so I heard my words to her at a slight delay, BUT it was VERY wonderful....a Voice for the name! You owe it to yourselves to check this out....not only is it good for sending tunes via email, it will be great for telephone visits, esp. on a Phoakies income, eh? 12 Aug 99 - 05:56 AM (#104220) Subject: RE: I just talked to Alison in OZ for FREE!! From: katlaughing Barbara, it's easy. Just click on the button at the bottom of the Mediaring telephone, which, when your cursor is over it, says "Voice Messages", second button from the right as you look at it. Then hit the record button which comes up, in the center near the bottom. Then choose to send by email, enter the address, go to the top, choose record (red button), speak and viola! You can even listen to your message before choosing send. Otherwise, instead of choosing email, you can dial in the phone number you know someone's computer is hooked up to and on-line with, and talk to them, as Alison and I did tonight. There is a way to call someone on their regular phone, too, but I haven't explored that and don't know if any charges apply or not. katlaughing |

"Cant hear?" tells me to check my volume is turned up (yes). "Can't see player?" gives me a a "page can't be dispayed" diagnostic. Is this them or me? |

12 Aug 99 - 06:47 PM (#104488) Subject: RE: I just talked to Alison in OZ for FREE!! From: Bill D hmmm...as soon as I get my new computer up, I gotta have this! I have had IPhone..(Internet Telephone) for 2½ years, and it does the same trick..(I have spoken 'live' to folks in OZ a couple of times)...the trouble is, it cost me...hmmm...$40, I think...and I only have a half-duplex sound card, so I have to 'wait' to speak till the other person is done..like the old movies with the hand-held mics.."..can you HEAR me, Charlie?..over.."...it is quite neat, but requires owning the software..I sure will be happy to have this new one.. |

12 Aug 99 - 09:16 PM (#104517) Subject: RE: I just talked to Alison in OZ for FREE!! From: alison oK i admit.. the phone bit isn't all that great... it does work sometimes... I've had great talks to Scotland.... the US is more difficult(maybe there's more traffic) Talked to Mick (heard him pretty well) Barbara and kat broke up a lot. But it works really well for sending voice messages and tunes... that's why I use it. slainte alison |
