The dates for the Five Day Staithes Open Acoustic Music Festival 2010 have changed . New dates are now Wednesday 28th July to Sunday 1st August 2010.

There will be one festival price for each pitch of £25 per unit for up to four people per unit. Awnings will be an additional £10 , which must be booked and paid in advance at the time of booking. This includes tents caravans and motor homes for five nights. There will be no reduction for stays of less than five nights.
These changes have been made to secure a sheltered quite site exclusively for festival goers.
No dogs or fires any where on the camp site
The Captain Cook Inn are offering a special discount for the Festival of £75 Per person for five nights B&B (i.e. £15 pppn) for two people sharing a room

Still not sure it if I will be there yet, Tim. If I do get there it will only be until Saturday morning. Same price for one person for one night as for 4 people for 5 nights? Don't seem quite fair somehow.

How far is the new camp site from the Captain Cook Inn?

Absolutely Doug. Not fair or right.

Give Doug a one night price Tim. He does a lot of good for the folk world.

I have asked as to the whereabouts of the camp site Doug and am waiting the info .
As to the pricing I hadn't looked at it that way 'cos It didn't occur.
I don't think there is a promoter as such.
That would imply that there was someone who was looking to make some cash from the event.
There are organizers and the main one for contact purposes is Tony Leonard. His contact details are in the first post.
I suppose the pub must stand to make some money from it so maybe inquiries about the pricing should go to Neil. His contact details are also in the first post .
I hope you do make it for at least some of the time Doug, it was excellent to have your company and music last time around.
I think your contribution was greatly appreciated by all...

Subject: RE: Staithes Music Event 2010.
From: GUEST,Neil

The new camp site is being provided as a one off specially for the festival, it is a 5 minute walk from The Captain Cook Inn. There will only be 30 pitches. The £25.00 being charged is being donated to the local school so no profit for anyone there.
The Captain Cook Inn is owned by Trevor who is 76 years old and still works 112 hours a week (that's 16 hours a day, 7 days a week). Trevors pub as been running at a loss for two and a half years now but as a labour of love he keeps it open by ploughing his pension
into it. Beer at £2 a pint (and under) means Trevor will never be rich as his pub would need 200 customers in it all the time at those prices. The Captain Cook would just about squeeze 100 people in at any one time.
Tony Leonard spends all his spare time organising this event and does not make a penny out of it, again it is a labour of love.
As for me, I just love good old fashioned British pubs where people can gather and enjoy each others company over a pint and have a sing song so I work 21 hours a week behind the bar at no charge to help keep the pub open.
Events like the Staithes Acoustic Music Festival are what some people live for but are time consuming and costly to organise so anyone who would like to donate time or funds to help those less fotunate to do so would be appreciated.
Maybe a committee could be formed to help organise next years event and help take the burden off of Tony and Trevor.

Cheers Neil.
The weekend at Staithes is in my opinion one of the friendliest and most welcoming that I have attended.
Any music is welcomed equally and performers of any level.
Nobody is paid to play.
It is informal cheap and great fun.
Like most things you take from it according to what you bring.
Look forward to seeing a few of you there.

Sad state of affairs there Neil.

A committee would sound a good idea. If it was set up properly, you may be able to get a grant for the weekend.

Maybe there should be an entrance fee for each event, say £2 which would go to the pub.

Have a look here Neil. You could go for the short form grant, for a maximum of £10000, which takes about 10 weeks to be approved, but you need a committee with bank account etc officially set up. You are very rural and you can argue the case for a community music weekend, where you could buy in some qualty performers as well (just a thought).

Good Luck
Arthur

This sounds a fabulous event and deserves support. We had an impromptu weekend there in March with some bluegrass musicians and were made very welcome by Trevor and the locals. Best of luck - and it sounds VERY good value to me.

Trevor seems to support a lot of music events over there in Staithes.
They do a Sunday every month at which anyone is welcomed to play sing recite etc and I believe He also enjoys his jazz as well as blue grass.
Incidentally some blue grass would go down very well at the staithes weekend if you were around mate.
Looking forward to meeting you Muppett.

I have to agree with Ticketseller - the pub is excellent and deserves support. Trevor is a wonderful bloke! We stayed up playing music til 4am, and he brought us loads of fresh orange and a fine cooked breakfst at 11.30 the next morning! I'll try to get over for at least one day over the weekend, but busy round then. For the people complaining about the cost of camping, there's plenty of other sites in the area. And if it's only for one night, you can always just stay up playing and sleep when you go home...

Looking forward to 5 days and nights of fun!! No stars thank you - I always think of Staithes as a DIY weekend and wish there were more held like this. Although I consider myself to be a 'folkie' I enjoy the mix of music and song over the 5 night weekend.
Another one is on the last weekend of June, any profit in aid of the British Heart Foundation at Chorley, called Sing Your Heart Out, another one at Copull and I could continue but if anyone wants more info please PM me

Main times in Captain Cook are ten A.M till lunch.
Then around 2 PM until 4 P.M.
Then the evening until closing time.
There is usually music on the campsite as well.
Its fairly unstructured as to times purely because
The music is made by the musicians depending on muse and hangover.
The evenings tend to be busiest and Saturday evening busiest of all.
Maybe nearer the time a few of us could arrange something via this thread?

Given the way the weather has gone from fine to foul in a day recently, I wouldn't hold your breathe if I were you.

The Black Bull Bender (weekend before last) was fine weather Fri pm/Saturday and rain all day Sunday. Still a great weekend, though.

LOL
was being a bit tongue in cheek re weather mate.
There is a nice weather proof pub a the center of things with quite a height advantage over the waves.
I hope its not hot so we have to keep drinking all the time.
I really hate it when its so warm you need beer just to keep yer singing bits oiled.
