New folk venue in Harrogate

18 May 10 - 09:34 AM (#2909169)
Subject: New folk venue in Harrogate
From: Joe Nicholson

It is proposed to start a new Singers/musicians evening at The Traveller's Rest Harrogate. Mauren and i were approached by the Landlady Kate Pawson after hearing the session we had after the funeral of Geof Pearson. She thinks she would like to have some folk music in the pub.
Geofs Widow Linda has expressed an interest in running it so She, Maureen and Kate got togaether and the outcome is a trial run next Monday May 24th at 8-00pm. The I dea is to have it on the first monday of each month. The reason Monday is chosen is because Fri/Sat are out they are the pubs busiest nights for serving meals. Other than that Monday is the best option bearing in mind othe folk events in the area so to begin with:-

Monday 28th May 8pm
The Taveller's Rest
Crimple Lane off Ruding Lane
Harrogate HG3 1DF

Contacts Linda Pearson    01423 523848
         Maureen Nicholson 01423 503923

Note;- There are two Traveller's rests in Harrogate do not go to the one on the road to Skipton. The one you want is just off the Harrogate Wetherby road nesr The Great Yorkshire Show Ground

Great to hear, Joe. I'll get there when I can, though your first date is a no-no for me.

Any idea of what sort of format it will take - singaround - session - mixed - round the room - sit at the front - join in or not join in?

Sorry about the date it is tonight the 24th. I think it will take the form of a Singaround with musical sessions round the room and certainly join-in sort of friendly like evertone gets there turn. allthough I am not running it I am just the messenger.

Nice evening and a lovely setting and I'll try to get over again sometime with my wife. Keep popping the reminders on here.

I think I managed to get away with not doing Streets of London for the landlord (I presume it was he with the tie?) but perhaps another time :)

Nice to see you again Nick - at least I knew somebody there! In fact, I now know quite few more people and will definitely be back for the first of the regular "first Monday of the month" sessions in two weeks time.

Yes it was a lovely friendly relaxed evening, and it was good to see so many familiar faces from the Harrogate and Dales scene again, including you Nick of course - and also to encounter Roger and others for the first time. Looking forward to next month's (on Monday June 7th) already!

Just a reminder that the second night at The Travellors Rest Crimple is on the coming Monday 7th June. Last time was quite good and it's a good place to spend a Summers evening. See you there?

Once again I can't make it. My mum died last week and I have the funeral on Thursday. So, as you might imagine, I have quite a few things to sort out before then
