Online radio-without installing player

lookee here!

A site that lets you play online radio without downloading and installing a separate player/program. It 'seems' to be mostly done thru Shoutcast.

I scrolled down the left column to 'folk', clicked and then went to the other list, where I instantly connected with "Folk Alley"...and Folk Alley provides the name of the selection at the top. (I am listening while typing this in another tab)

I sure hope it stays this easy....
(note..some of the downloadable programs allow you to record what you are hearing.. I don't think you can do that here.)

Let everyone know if it works for you.

Audacity (along with many others) records any streams you want as they happen but I increasingly find that with the abundance of access to music that I increasingly don't need to 'own' music anymore.

I have something like 1500 'albums' in the house and rarely listen to many. Access to music when you want to hear it - either randomly with radio or 'chosen radio' (like Spotify or Napster or...) seems to be quite a desirable thing to me. Whether the business model works for the purveyors (or the artits) I'm not sure and neither do I really care. I like being able to hear what I want when I choose and never has that been possible before in my lifetime - and legally. Once upon a time I saved up my money and nipped off down to the record shop with my 32s 6d and bought albums when I could afford it and hoped that I wouldn't be disappointed.

I think you contributed to a porn thread recently BillD and I think that music and porn are quite similar. I was talking with someone in the non-music field some years ago and he said there will always be 'classic' things that people may wish to have and keep and go back to, but the excitement of the new and unseen (or unheard) are what will always make people come back because it just might be better

It doesn't seem to preload (buffer) any. As a result it is very choppy.

That might mean you are on dialup? I've had a fast connection for several years, and am getting used to not having buffer problems.
