On today's edition of my radio show, my guest will be Bob Porco, grandson of original Folk City owner Mike Porco. Bob is writing a book on his grandfather and the club, and he is also producing a special "reunion" concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening. Mike Porco turned a little neighborhood Italian restaurant in Greenwich Village into a mecca for folkies. WFDU-FM's TRADITIONS can be heard from 3 to 6pm ET, and the show will be streaming live on our website - and archived for two weeks - at www.wfdu.fm Bob will be on during the second hour. |

It was opening act and MC for Brownie McGhee & Sonny Terry back in 1967. I was paid $5, a bottle of beer and a sandwich. Mark Ross |
