28 May 10 - 08:43 PM (#2916334) Subject: Obit: Gary Coleman (Diff'rent Strokes) From: Amergin Apparently, Gary Coleman has died from a brain hemorrhage....I use to watch his show as a kid...but now that I am grown...and (legally) mature I can't stand it....especially as how unrealistic it was....some rich guy who takes in his maid's kids after she dies...typical eighties bullshit trying to show the rich as benevolent masters over the poor. Anyone recall when he ran for governor of California? Anyway, his obit is here: Gary Coleman Dies at 42 |

He ended up as a security guard at one point. He received a lot of abuse and became very bitter in later life. He was used as a caricature and spent his whole life being laughed at for all the wrong reasons. He's at peace now. |

29 May 10 - 07:41 AM (#2916496) Subject: RE: Obit: Gary Coleman (Diff'rent Strokes) From: catspaw49 The entire series had problems. Todd Bridges went through a dozen years of hell before coming out the other side. Dana Plato never came out. Spaw |

Yes a lot of 1980's and 90's primetime tv in the US was utter shite. Which is why I stayed up late to watch Carson, Saturday Night Live, and the really great stuff from Canada and UK to be found on PBS (Public Broadcasting Stations). SCTV (Second City TV - Canada) Are You Being Served Black Adder Allo, Allo Yes Minister Monty Python a smidge of Red Dwarf at the end of the 80s and early 90s. One Foot In the Grave, Keeping Up Appearances, Murder Most Horrid and Waiting for God in the 90s. (I was utterly hooked on the British comedies on PBS buy then) another comedy from Canada that I loved ... The Red Green Show (also the 90s). |
