Tech: Digital Camera-video playback problem

When I transfer data from digital camera to my laptop it appears to work fine. When I view the contents the stll photos are perfect but the video clips play with sound only. I have tried playback using Media Player, Quicktime and Real player without success. Any suggestions, please.

Just to elaborate on my request, I am using a Samsung L313 camera, just a basic model. Some older video clips from a Sanyo camera which I transferred play back with sound and vision

Did you have any software on CD-Rom with the camera? And if so, have you installed it on your computer? I found with my Panasonic camera that the video clips were not even recognised as being present on the SD card unless I installed (on my PC) the Panasonic program (gross MB of space!) that came with the camera.
Now i have a Mac laptop (and the same camera), I haven't had to install the Panasonic software, as the stills go into Iphoto and the video clips into Imovie with no bother.

What is the file that is created? Is it an avi or an mpeg or what? It could be that you don't have an appropriate codec to play it.

I have a file on my machine which won't play in Windows media player, or Nero, or PowerDVD, or VLC player but does in Real Player. Only the sound plays and I get a decoder error in VLC - something to do with an IV50 format being incompatible.

You could try to open the file in Super and convert it to a different format - I have sometimes found that works. Don't download Super from anywhere apart from that site as it can come with unpleasant side effects if downloaded from other sites

are you transferring via "fire wire"?
glad you solved it...do you have windows movie maker?
there might be some options within that program, too.
