I've left this a bit late I realise, but knowing how resourceful mudcatters are, I am hoping someone will be able to help me. I shall be up in the centre of Liverpool from 2nd - 4th June, does anyone know of any song/tune sessions on any of those days (I play fiddle) ? I wont have a car so would need to be fairly central.

the Liverpool branch of Comhaltas has music events in Liverpool, though perhaps not city centre. should be accessible by public transport. no contact details, try googling - I think St Michael's centre is the venue/HQ

Hi Keith,

Are you sure you've got the right watering hole? According to the Metro's website, it's only open Fridays and Saturdays.

Opening Hours

Monday - Thursday: Closed
Friday: 5.30pm - 3am
Saturday: 6.30pm - 3.30am
Sunday: Closed

Anyway, it looks a trifle on the plush side to be attracting the likes of us. (I know. Speak for myself.)

I believe Temple Fire are a 'Celtic' folk group made up of Liverpool University students. Might be one or two decent players among them but on the other hand...

A few years ago I started up a session at the Edinburgh, Sandown Lane, Wavertree. It started as a one-off St Patrick's gig then became a regular session. This now runs on Mondays. Used to be a good place for a tune but it's quite variable nowadays. Tends to be a bit heavy on the singing - not all of it great. Nothing wrong with singing, but there used to be so few places where you could be sure of a good tune and now there's one less. Still has its moments, though. One to bear in mind next time you're coming up.

The regular session at the St Michaels Centre is on the last Friday of the month so you would have missed that one as well. However, it's always worth giving them a call - lots of musicians will turn up for a session at short notice if they know someone's in town who's up for a tune. Give me a shout next time. I'm on the Comhaltas website under 'Liverpool'.
