Lyr Req: Corn Cob Blues (John Hartford)

My guitar teacher is teaching me something that he says is called Corn Cob Blues, that he learnt from a guy in a guitar shop. It doesn't appear to be the John Hartford bluegrass tune of the same name and all I can find via Google is a reference in a book called The Bluegrass Reader of which I can only view this snippet: "Corn Cob Blues" (Harry Ace 345-A, recorded 1947) This is Doc Stanley's famous complaint about how rough dried corn cobs are; some scholars think Doc was..."

Can't find anything on Harry Ace or Doc Stanley but presumably that's anyway another bluegrass tune.

Does anyone know of any recordings of a "Corn Cob Blues"? I'd love to track this one down - tho of course it's quite possible the guy in the guitar shop wrote it himself.

There is a fellow who plays banjo and sings John Hartford's song on youtube, just in case you aren't positive it isn't that one. Someone here will know, I am sure. Good luck!

That's one of John Hartford's songs on the Album "Looks At Life."

I posted a partial tab on www.countrytabs.com taken from a 40sec sound clip...to wit:

There may be more verses....v.g.

Corn Cob Blues
D
Well the cowboy promoted the wedding you know
             G                         D
Between the songs of his rock and roll show

The groom was thin, and the bride was a tease
                G                      D
Recorded to the sound of his latest release
                G                   D
They both were members of the back up crew
                                    A       D
And the thin man was thinkin' those corncob blues

D
Well the rain came down and the crowd was slow
               G                      D
The cowboy hollered as he stubbed his toe

The signs on the trees from here to town
                G                   D
Hurricane Apple couldn't knock them down
                G                     D
The thin man stands in his water-logged shoes
                               A       B
And keeps on thinking of those corncob blues

Well......

Maybe Harpgirl...has more on the lyrics.
