BS: radio comedy skits - two women

My mother-in-law, (now age 84) used to listen comedy skits on the radio that involved two women. One day, for example, they were all excited because they were going to the department store for the washrag sale. I believe this was on National Public Radio.

That was years ago, and the phrase 'washrag sale' still reverberates for me.

Can anybody give me a title for this series so that I can look for a CD of it? She has had surgery and needs cheering up.

I Googled "washrag sale," and got the answer: the 1940s radio series "Vic & Sade" (no NPR in those days). Apparently, Sadie and her friend Ruth were enamored of the washrag sale at Yambleton's Department Store.
Here's a link to buy CDs of ""Vic and Sade" although I, darned if I know which one contains the washrag episode(s). There's a phone number on the home page. Good luck, and my best to your mother-in-law. Mine's 90.

Bless you, bless you!

I never dreamed that I would be able to Google 'washrag sale' and find anything.

I found a DVD on Amazon. I used the page where the Mudcat gets a cut.

Thanks again.

We still say "washrag" at least among my siblings. I know I say "washcloth" to my kids and Rog. Funny to think of that. Wonder who else uses it and how universal it is/was as a term.

I've always called it that. It wasn't until I heard about the skit that the word began to seem comic of itself.

I download a lot of old-time radio for older people. Download it and burn it to discs. Some great programs. The linkmaker isn't working for me, but the URL below goes to some Vic & Sade programs.

That's archive.org's listing of titles that begin with V. Go down to the middle of that page and click on the years--you'll get several episodes per page.

There's an episode on the 1945-1957 page called "Landlady's Washrag collection," and an episode on the 1944 page called "Sale at Yamilton's."

You can right-click and "Save As" to load episodes onto your hard drive, then burn copies. Takes an mp3/CD player to play them, or you can play them on another computer or DVD player, and so on.

My goodness, I had no idea you could do that kind of thing.

I am intrigued by No. 52, 'Can Blue-tooth sue the Bijou?' Such poetry!
