weldon's limericks [17]

I love the limerick form. I don't care for the ones which exist only for the rude words. Edward Gorey has shown that a limerick can be shocking and literate at the same time.

The best are in bad taste, but still palatable. So I've been writing them by the dozen: here are a first sampling, sung and of course illustrated by yours truly.

Thanks folks. I'm actually starting another set. I told my wife I was going to devote the rest of my life to limericks, and she said firmly "No, you're Not!"   So I will have to do something else as well though I'm not sure what.

Gee, I've been speaking to my wife in limericks for over eight years now, and she still thinks it's cute.
Guess it must be true love....
Good job, John.

This was my submission to Montreal's M60 Festival. The subject was ADVENTURE.
(Everyone makes a 60 second film on a given subject in one month.)

On the other hand, the wife isn't soo happy with my new addiction:

She said: "Are you asking, am I mad???
Honey, it's your bad, not my bad!
And if I should hear
One more limerick, dear
I'll beat you to death with your iPad!!!"

Well, tonight is now a better night on Leeside Drive. Cold, windy, damp... but now a bit warmer. Thanks John. Always entertaining.

John I suggest you read Gershon Legman or Sabine Baring Gould to find out what a REAL Limerick is.

You probably mean William Stuart Baring Gould, not his grandfather. I read his Lure of the Limerick in my teens.
I have also read one of the Legman collections.

The most masterful limericks of all, however, were those written by Edward Gorey. They can be found in the collection "Amphigorey", I believe, and should be read with the illustrations.
