Tech: 'Locked' Telly

I hesitated to include this post under "Tech" but the operation of anything electrical, newer than the Electric Kettle, is a horrible mystery to me.
Can anyone help? My young grandniece visited us a few days ago and "locked" our 5 yr old telly. It is a Phillips Black Line. How ? As far as I can remember she went into the "Menu" to correct the picture which had the letter "F" superimposed on the top right hand corner. She made several unsuccessful attempts to "remove" this letter "F" but while in "Child Lock" she changed that to "ON" . We have been unable to access the "Menu" ever since and all that can be seen, and that only briefly, is the message "LOCKED" ! ! The telly now will not respond to the Remote Control.
Help Please! The World Cup is on .have pity on an old "Technophobe"

I don't know anything about televisions, but electric things in general usually can't hold onto any settings without electricity.

So you should be able to undo any settings, and get back to the way it was when you first took it out of the box, by unplugging it and removing any batteries.

There's a possibility that a capacitor is used to store electricity for the settings chip, or that a flash memory chip is used to hold the settings without any power. In that case, what I suggested won't work, but it's an easy thing to try and I'd give it at least a 90 percent likelihood of working.

beachcomber, there's probably some simple default password, like "000". Your owner's manual should be able to tell you. If you don't have your owner's manual handy, your best bet is to find the user's manual online (start here in "Support" at the Philips site.

Normally the "child lock" function will just disable the buttons on the TV - the remote should still function. Does it do anything at all? Check the batteries etc.

You should be able to use the remote to get into the menu system and disable child lock.

Some philips sets use "0711" as the code.
