28 Jun 10 - 08:12 PM (#2936335) Subject: RE: Review: Niamh Parsons From: Maryrrf I want to add that I too am a big fan of Niamh. I walked into Borders one day and picked one of her albumns to listen to - as soon as I heard "Bonny Woodhall" I was hooked. What a beautiful, strong, confident female voice! An inspiration to those of us who don't care for the breathy airy voice style that seems to be in style nowadays. |

29 Jun 10 - 03:20 AM (#2936462) Subject: RE: Review: Niamh Parsons From: Murray MacLeod Niamh is indeed a beautiful singer with a wondrous voice, but I have a bee in my bonnet about the way she altered the melody of Mickey McConnell's song, "The Tinkerman's Daughter" , and now, a thousand Niamh wannabees sing the song the same way. If you are reading this, Niamh, the bit I am referring to is the end of the second line on each alternate verse, ie " ....borders his land...." Why, oh why, did you not follow Mickey's melody, instead of "simplifying" it ? |

29 Jun 10 - 05:07 AM (#2936501) Subject: RE: Review: Niamh Parsons From: Acorn4 There is a vogue at the moment for English parents to call their daughters Neeve - phonetically imitating the Gaelic. Even worse was the mum who decided to call her little darling "Chiffon" - as she wanted an Irish name (Siobhan). Back to the point, Niamh is a very fine singer and, as an added bonus, chooses great material. I've heard it some female singers that they could "sing the telephone book and make it sound good". Niamh always chooses interesting songs. |

31 Mar 11 - 03:41 PM (#3125720) Subject: RE: Review: Niamh Parsons From: NP1 Sorry Murray - I learnt Tinkerman's Daughter from Cathal McConnell - brother of Mickey - about 8 year before I recorded it - then when I went to record it I phoned Mickey and asked his permission - he was actually recording it for 'Peter Pan and Me' at the same time....... he gave me the ok and I didn't know there was a different note until I actually heard his album - a few months later - so - I didn't actually change his version - its the way I learnt it - For the record - Mickey likes the version I recorded. 31 Mar 11 - 04:26 PM (#3125752) Subject: RE: Review: Niamh Parsons From: alex s Love your voice. Rigs of Rye is my favourite. Nice to hear a good stong woman's voice instead of all the current crop of girlies simpering their way through what used to be meaty traditional songs. |

31 Mar 11 - 05:22 PM (#3125808) Subject: RE: Review: Niamh Parsons From: Maryrrf I love your voice too Niamh, and your choice of material. Your version was the first time I'd heard "Tinkerman's Daughter" and it's still my favorite. |
