Where are the caption threads?

Tell me, what has happened to the caption threads that Alice, Genie and others have posted? I hope that all posters are well. I really found those threads interesting, humorous and challenging.I hope that they make a return soon.

Put caption? in the filter, TT, and set the time period to All. A number of them will come up.

Tom, I have been busy lately so I have not searched for appropriate images. I am still here. Thanks for caring.

Some of us would rather see fewer caption threads. Maybe start one for July and have a new photo to caption every day or something.

Well, one thread with many photos would not work, Joe, but we've been over that discussion before.
It doesn't work if multiple ideas are combined in one thread... no one knows which image captions are referring to.

Here's an idea. Why don't we just have one long BS thread for each month and everyone posts their BS idea topic in that thread. That would end the different threads for different ideas or topics problem.

Really, I don't mean to be annoying. Some of us get a little humor out of our day doing something harmless related to funny images and anyone who is not interested can ignore the thread. I open very few threads on Mudcat and ignore the rest and it doesn't bother me at all that other people are interested in starting threads on topics that don't interest me.

Life has been very hard for me the last few years and playing word games with pictures with those who like to do the same, brought a little smile into what has been quite hard for me to bear.

I remember that discussion. I thought it was settled that Alice would start them and those who enjoy them would keep up with them; otherwise no one is made to open them. I know I got tired of seeing them, too, but they are always funny pix and one of the few places in BS one can count on it not being one of the contentious/political/endless/copycat ad nauseum stuff.

Give it up, Joe. It's like the b-day threads. They're here to stay.:-)

I'm glad to hear that everyone is okay. That was my main concern. Looking forward to other caption threads in time to come.

Go Alice!

What Kat said. Plus: Joe, not every person who does what you do not personally enjoy, online, is a needy troll. Stop acting like a mean nun!

I've only been a member for 8 years and don't have a clue what a "caption thread" is.

There are just levels and levels of Mudcat to navigate or as Seeger used to sing:

From here on up the hills don't get any higher,
From here on up the hills don't get any higher,
From here on up the hills don't get any higher,
But the valleys get deeper and deeper!

Charley Noble, try this link to one of the caption threads. Then you'll know:

I guess that to please Joe we'd have to agree that caption threads, obits, and news clips should all be posted only in the MOAB thread?

The only "saving" I can see there is that only the dozen or so fruit-loops who continue to post there would see them, and of course the 'cat would die (or appear to) repeatedly every time a couple of people accidentally clicked to load the whole thing instead of paging it.

That would, maybe, reduce the number of posts per day - especially while the 'cat looks like it died because of the 20 minute downloads - but I'm at a loss to see how the number of threads that our mudelfs need to watch is significantly affected by the fairly small number of new threads created on a given day.

Maybe Joe could explain what "extra work" is created by an "extra thread" in the data base, so we can understand why we should try harder to limit the number of new threads?

Years back I tried to open the MOAB thread, and it crashed my browser.
I have not gone back to it since then. Don't follow it, don't know what it is, and I think that is just fine. - Alice

The caption threads are still here, but some of them haven't got a lot of captions submitted. The easiest way to find them, if you're one of us'ns what likes 'em, is to put the word "caption" in the Forum Search box and set it to "all." That way you'll easily find the ones you missed out on.

From experience, I recommend you not do that. The few folks who post there alot have rather rigid rules (you have to sort throuth thousands of posts to find 'em, if you haven't been posting there for a decade, ofr so) on what not to post...and will remind you of it. News clips, nor captions would not be accepted lightly, and you would be told so.I am not sure about obits?

However, if you have poems (it helps if they are about the sea), lots of stories about chimps, William Shatner or Shane McBride, or get excited about reaching OOO thread numbers...you would feel much at home amongst these thread kin folks....and some complain about a few caption posts taking up too much thread-space.

Ya know how I use 'em? I use 'em to cruise into the site that hosts them and look around a tad to see what I missed lately. The best ones go into my screensaver for stress relief yuks.

I am neither an opponent nor a huge fan of the "caption threads." I look in on one occasionally, and usually get a chuckle or two.

One question: Do they all concern cute little kittycats?

Answer: No.

Thanks for chuckling once in awhile.

You know, I still would rather see fewer caption threads. I said it in as gentle and polite a way as I could think of. This is what I said, and this is all I said:
Some of us would rather see fewer caption threads. Maybe start one for July and have a new photo to caption every day or something.
Do I have no right to an opinion? Did I threaten to take any action against caption threads? Gimme a break. I just think they're boring and shallow and aggravatingly repetitive, which is what I think of a lot of the BS threads (although I didn't even say THAT in my previous message, and still people jumped all over me). That's my opinion. I'm not asking anybody to agree with me; but I think I should be allowed to say what I think at times, just like everybody else.
-Joe-

P.S. I think it's nice that thread originators have been including the word "caption" in the title of caption threads.
Oh, and you can open the MOAB (Mother of All BS threads) in 50-message segments by clicking on the number of messages or the d (descending) links in the Forum Menu. Please don't open it any other way.
