Spotted this evening on the Trafford Community forum:

Frank Sidebottom - Bard of Timperley

It has been announced that Frank (aka Chris Sievey) died today - many thanks for making me laugh out loud so many times.
I won a raffle prize at his last concert at The Railway Club about 6-months ago and ended up on stage singing (debateable in my case) a Fall song.

You'll be missed Frank...you know you will, you really will.

I'd just read this thread when Janice Long played 'I've Been on Match of the day' on BBC Radio 2 !

We have lost someone who single-handedly set the folk process in motion. He'll be sadly missed.

Saw him recently in Stockport supporting John Cooper Clarke.

Very sad news.

You probably have to come from North West England to appreciate him completely.

Rest in peace, Chris, and thanks for the laughs. Maybe you have to know the place, but Timperley Sunset will forever raise a smile with me.

Only just. You probably have to come from that region to have had maximum exposure to Chris/Frank but, trust me, even southern softies know an inspired character when we see one. We may have seen a little less of him, but that doesn't mean we thought less of him.

Well played, Chris and Frank.
