RICHARD HAWLEY (Friday 22 October) The man the Arctic Monkeys dedicated their Mercury Prize to (he was widely tipped to win it that year for his album Coles Corner) a Yorkshire man from Sheffield and the purveyor of some of the most profound, beautiful & lyrical popular music to have emerged in recent years. From his early band The Longpigs to his time with Pulp, his work with Jarvis Cocker on Nancy Sinatra's album & his involvement in the seminal album by Elbow "The Seldom Seen Kid " Hawley is the kind of musician whose energy & enthusiasm is matched by his integrity and ability to make music rooted in his birthplace and in a nostalgia for musical genres rooted elsewhere . His latest album Truelove's Gutter is now widely seen as his masterpiece .One reviewer wrote " his finest achievement yet—a work of art with no precedent and no chance of ever being repeated, another landmark etching of the heart's geography from a soulful trailblazer …."

ANGÉLIQUE KIDJO (Benin)    (Saturday 23 October) Widely regarded as Africa's premier diva, Angelique Kidjo UN Goodwill ambassador is an internationally renowned artist from Benin. who combines her jazz roots with Afrobeat and Latin styles, and has collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Joss Stone, Bono, Carlos Santana, Dave Matthews, Peter Gabriel and Alicia Keys. Kidjo continues to live up to her sterling reputation with the release of her latest album, Oyo, which pays tribute to the artists who've influenced her. Her live shows are legendary so expect one of those nights not to forget.

THE IMAGINED VILLAGE (Sunday 24 October) Featuring many names familiar to Musicport audiences Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy, Simon Emmerson, Johnny Kalsi , Sheema Mukerjee & The Young Coppers to name but a few this fusion of traditional English music with the influences of modern multicultural Britain creates something compellingly original and it has moved on dramatically from its WOMAD showcase in 2007 with their recent Southbank performance garnering 4* reviews in The Guardian & Independent & the second album Empire & Love a 5* review in The Independent.

MÁRTA SEBESTYÉN (Hungary) (Sunday)   Márta Sebestyén is the voice of traditional Hungarian folk pure, powerful and seductive. Best known internationally for her soundtrack vocals on The English Patient, she's recorded with most of Hungary's seminal folk bands. Here she's working in a reduced but fresh idiom with two magnificent musicians Mátyás Bolya on plucked strings and Balázs Szokolay Dongó on shepherd's flutes, bagpipes and other wind instruments. Sebestyérn sings hand-picked songs that she has learnt from traditional musicians.

JAH WOBBLE'S JAPANESE DUB (Sunday ) Following the success of his 2008 release, Chinese Dub & the show stopping appearance at WOMAD, Jah Wobble - creatively adventurous music-maker and master of the cross-cultural collaboration - turns his attention to Japan,. The recent release of a ten track album featuring himself alongside our old friend Joji Hirota (vocals, taiko drums), Keiko Kitamura (vocals, shamisen, koto), Clive Bell (shakahatchi) and Robin Thompson (hikaritchi, sho, shamisen) led to many excellent reviews.
