The last time I attended one of these gatherings it was held in the hold of the Thayer and there must have been a hundred people crammed in like so much salt cod. Not everyone led a song but they were certainly there for chorus or refrain. I began wondering if the old schooner's ribs could stand the pressure. I could just see the screaming headlines in the newspapers the next day: SHIP SUNK TO THE CHORUS OF "ROLL THE OLD CHARIOT!"

I understand that now the Thayer has had her hull completely rebuilt. Has anyone tried out the new acoustics?

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
