A digital recorder ?

I am using a "Zoom H-2" digital recorder and I am very pleased with it. I have to fly from Seattle to Alaska in a couple of months and I'm planning on taking this recorder with me. Question: would you think it best if I ship it ahead by post office, or can I just put it in my luggage and send it through the airport scanners? Thanks for your thoughts .... Bob(deckman)Nelson

I think you can put it in your luggage. People carry Mp3 players and things like that all the time.

Luggage is fine.

Thanks for your thoughts. I guess my concerns were two: would it show up on the x-ray as something dangerous ... and ... would the x-rays damage anything? bob

No airport x-ray machine has ever affected my film or digital cameras - so far. :-)

I have travelled in and out of USA with a Zoom 4 in Hand Baggage - NEVER had a problem !

I wouldn't put it in your checked luggage, too liable to be smashed up or stolen...I would carry it on.

Hand baggage, deffo.
I've seen how high and how far those checked bags fly through the air (and that's before take-off and after landing)!

I've never had a problem with film or digital cameras, or a small radio scanner, always taken as carry on. Sometimes they'll ask to look in the bag.
Once, after going through several scans between Oz and UK without query I was questioned on arrival at Heathrow about a "suspicious" electronic object in my checked luggage. It was a camera battery charger. Satisfying them was a simple matter of just opening the bag and showing the object.
I think that I read somewhere that it's a good idea to remove the batteries from the equipment but I haven't always done that.

It's still be set up, but it looks like Palmer and Anchorage. There might be some other gigs also. If you'll PM me, I'll keep you posted. bob

If there's a real security question ship it ups two day, ahead of time. Make sure it's properly packaged and they will insure it.

The last time I shipped something by UPS they broke it and refused to pay for it.
